Villa captures state championship

For Justin Villa, it wasn't even close.

Representing Harley's Simi Bowl, Villa won the boys' 11-under Helbing Division of the third California Young American Youth Bowling Alliance state championships.

Villa won by a staggering 196 pins over his closest pursuer.

The six-week tournament, staged in Mission Hills and Winnetka, ended Aug. 10.

Aylse McGinnis was second in the girls' open scratch singles division with a 693 series, an average of 231 pins per game.

She was third in scratch all-events with a nine-game total of 1,935, second in the Junior Gold qualifier scratch all-events and fifth in overall handicap all-events.

Jordan Bibby of Harley's Camarillo placed second in boys' all-events for averages 94 and below.

Matthew Jones and Brian Ballard of Buena Lanes were fourth in the open scratch doubles event. They combined for a total of 1,295 pins. Ballard finished 10th in boys' scratch all-events with a 1,878.

Buena Lanes' Lindsay Hannasch was seventh in girls' scratch all-events with a 1,753 total and sixth in the Junior Gold qualifier.

Mason Luther of Harley's Simi Bowl made multiple top-10 lists.

Luther was 10th in singles with a handicap series of 772 and 10th in all-events (2,198) in the boys' 110 to 124 average division and eighth in doubles (1,495) with Sonny Luther.

Allison Green of Harley's Simi Bowl was fourth in girls' singles (754) and 10th in all-events (2,112), for averages 140 to 154.

Sabrina Barajas of Wagon Wheel Bowl was eighth in girls' all-events (2,146) for averages 95 to 109.

Sarah Sims of Buena Lanes placed 10th in the girls' 135-139 handicap all-events division and fourth in the girls' 11-under Irwin Division all-events.

The Buena Lanes So Hard So Cal squad placed sixth in the open scratch team event.

The Strikers from Harley's Simi Bowl finished ninth in 500-599 handicap team division.

The WWB Slammers Four of Wagon Wheel Bowl placed third in the team 400-499 handicapped division.

Buena Lanes Twisted Fury was ninth in the 379-under handicap division.
