PCH reopened after sewage spill

A section of Pacific Coast Highway near the Ventura-Los Angeles county line closed after a sewage spill this morning has been reopened, authorities said.

Southbound lanes of PCH were closed at Las Posas Road near Point Mugu and northbound lanes were closed at the county line after a tractor trailer hauling liquid sewage overturned on a curve near Deer Creek Road about 4:40 a.m., said Officer Mike Untalan of the California Highway Patrol.

The roadway was reopened about 7:45 a.m.

The truck driver, Abraham Lemus, 53, of Oxnard was heading southbound in a convoy of four trucks when the accident occurred, Untalan said. It was not clear this morning what caused the accident, but investigators do not believe Lemus was under the influence of any substance, he said.

No injuries were reported.

When the crash occurred, the truck blocked three lanes of traffic and spilled 1,500 gallons of sewage onto the roadway about a mile north of the county line, Untalan said. None of it spilled into the ocean, he said.

The truck drivers were helping crews from the Department of Transportation clean up remnants of the spill this morning.
