Venturan receives Eagle Scout Award
Mark Andrew Burnell, 18, of Ventura received his Eagle Scout Award in a court of honor ceremony July 20 at Poinsettia Pavilion in Ventura. The award was presented by Glen Gorski, unit leader, and Dr. Bill Klope Jr. Also participating in the ceremony were Dylan Birch, Rick Glenn and Dr. Bill Klope Sr.
Burnell is a member of Boy Scout Troop 155, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ventura East.
He joined the Boy Scouts in October 2001. He has been in Troop 128 and Troop 155, as well as Ventura Crew 2155. He has earned 23 merit badges.
For his Eagle Scout project, Burnell cleaned up a meditation area at Sacred Heart Church's grounds. He also rebuilt and painted two meditation stations with benches, as well as sanded and painted picnic tables. He had 30 helpers, and the project took more than 221 hours to complete.
At the time of his ceremony, Burnell was a senior at Buena High School. He also attended the National Jamboree in Caroline Cove, Va., in 2005.
He is the son of Michael and Ruthann Burnell of Ventura.
Moorpark Scout receives Eagle honor
Oscar V. Trujillo, 17, of Moorpark received his Eagle Scout Award in a court of honor ceremony on July 26 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Moorpark. The award was presented by Steve Swanson, unit leader.
Trujillo is a member of Boy Scout Troop 611, sponsored by Holy Cross Catholic Church.
He joined Troop 611 on April 28, 2002. He has earned 27 merit badges and has served the troop in numerous leadership roles.
For his Eagle Scout project, Trujillo led his troop in updating 50 emergency backpacks for the teachers and staff of Walnut Canyon Elementary School.
He also raised more than $500 to create 150 emergency kits for the school's students. He had 25 helpers, and the project took 196 community service hours to complete.
Trujillo is a junior at Moorpark High School and a member of the Moorpark Business Academy.
He is the son of Mirta and Oscar Trujillo of Moorpark.
