Alex Ackles used to survey high school athletic directors on the good and bad points about their job.
That insight should give the 31-year-old Ackles a head start as the new athletic director at Santa Clara High.
Ackles replaces Mike Schabert, who left last summer for a position as a principal at a Long Beach private school.
"Schabert left me a good file of information," said Ackles. "He will be a good resource that I will always have."
Ackles arrives at a time that has seen growth in school enrollment and athletic success. The football program won the 2007 CIF Mid-Valley Division championship.
"The tradition is rich at Santa Clara in all sports, not just football or basketball," said Ackles.
Before arriving in Oxnard, Ackles was a varsity assistant and JV lacrosse coach at Chaminade and served in athletic administration at the University of Redlands.
"I always wanted to pursue a career in athletic administration," said Ackles.
