UC president names interim provost
The acting chancellor of the University of California's Riverside campus has been tapped as the UC system's interim provost.
UC President Mark Yudof named Robert Grey on Monday to step in as the 10-campus system's top academic officer this week following the departure of Provost Wyatt "Rory" Hume for the United Arab Emirates University.
The 68-year-old Grey is a biologist who spent 41 years on the faculty of UC Davis, where he served as provost from 1995 to 2001. He was acting chancellor at UC Riverside from June 2007 until last month.
Yudof says he has appointed an advisory committee to look for a permanent replacement for Hume.
