Six local youths will attend Peace Jam. PeaceJam is an international peace and educational program built around leading (ten) Nobel Peace Prize Laureates who will work this September personally with 3000 youth from around the world to pass on their spirit, skills and wisdom they embody. The goal of PeaceJam is to inspire a new generation of peacemakers who will transform their local communities, themselves and the world.
The six youth from our community have been preparing their local peace issue of Social Justice to present at the conference, and then to continue to be shared throughout the year locally in schools and to community gatherings. The commitment of each youth is to carry the message, skills and tools they learn to others over the next ten year period. The original impetus of PeaceJam was to create one billion acts of peace in a decade, and these youth are committed to this process, and are beginning with this conference participation.
The youth will interact with otheryouth from diverse cultures and economic situations from all continents on our globe and meet with such inspiring figures as the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, Rigoberta Menchu and Jody Williams. They are immersing themselves in the history of each of the ten Nobel Laureates, and preparing the local peace project presentation for sharing and review at the conference.
We ask your help in making this step towards peace a reality.
