Sweep targeting child porn on file sharing networks nabs 7 county residents

Seven Ventura County residents, including a registered sex offender, were among more than 50 people arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography after a recent sweep of Internet file-sharing networks, authorities said today.

The eight-month investigation targeted people throughout Southern California who trade child porn on the Internet, according to authorities. It marked the first coordinated crackdown on child porn on “peer-to-peer networks,” which allow users to directly share content such as photos, videos or music, said Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles.

“These networks allow you to essentially bypass the traditional Web site, because you’re literally reaching into another personal computer and gaining access to the material,” Mrozek said. “It’s such an easy way to distribute this material that we realized we should take a closer look.”

Ventura County sheriff’s Detective Anthony Aguirre said child porn on peer-to-peer networks is one of the primary focuses of his work to combat Internet crimes against children.

“As easy as it is to download a song, it’s that easy to download a child porn video, as sad as that sounds,” said Aguirre, a sexual assault investigator who is part of an internet crimes taskforce.

The crackdown involved U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the FBI, Secret Service and local law enforcement agencies, including the Ventura County sheriff’s and Los Angeles police departments.

Investigators logged on to the networks and downloaded the offensive material, which helped them determine who else was downloading and uploading it, Aguirre said. Using software developed by the Wyoming Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, local investigators were able to search for people downloading child porn in their areas, identify them and eventually secure search warrants, Aguirre said.

Over the past several months in Ventura County, six men and a male juvenile from Simi Valley were arrested on suspicion of possessing child porn, authorities said.

Mark Klein, 44, of Oxnard was arrested today at his home and booked into federal jail in Los Angeles, Aguirre said. Tyler Farmer, 39, of Oxnard; Gregory Rex, 46, of Thousand Oaks; Alfred Botta, 68, of Camarillo; Henry Lebrun, 51, of Simi Valley, and Dorian Dehganmanesh, 27, of Ventura, also were arrested.

Farmer is a registered sex offender previously convicted of child molestation, Mrozek said. He remained in jail this week and could face a minimum of 10 years behind bars, Aguirre said.

A 37-year-old Simi Valley woman also was arrested during the sweep, on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine for sale, Aguirre said. Investigators found child porn on her computer and were still trying to determine who downloaded it, Aguirre said.

wow, wonder what the people in Leisure Village are thinking right now...

Good job on the sweep! No matter how safe we would like to think we are, these animals are everwhere!

Sad!!! So does child porn mean kids having sex? Sorry I don't get it, what does child porn mean? Can someone explain? Where do they get it from?!? CRAZY!!!

Anita - yup that's what I was thinking. Someow Latinos will be blamed.
They work in manufacturing companies therefore they must have built the computers, so there you go, it's the Latinos fault, if they wouldn't have built them we wouldn't have this problem!

Child sex offendors never do well when incarcerated....I say get rid of AdSeg (administrative segregation) and let them see how long they will last in general pop.

daugtherofimmigrant - not the Latinos fault. It is the redheads.

Interesting how out of all the people that CAMDAD would know in these articles...it would be the perv. I know he thinks he's sick now, but his employer evidently saw him as no different from CAMDAD when they hired him. What does that say about CAMDAD? Yet I'm sure he thinks the criminals in Oxnard are much worse.

GENERALIZATION: You just can't let your kids out in TO, Simi, Ventura, Camarillo or around Caucasian men that are aquaintances of CAMDAD from Oxnard.

CAMDAD: See how easy it is to make generalizations based on a few details of an article and sound ignorant? Works both ways. This post was merely a way of pointing out how you generalize on your posts and offend people that you choose to include in your sweeping generalizations.

I say castration should become an option when sentencing for these pervs!!!

There is nothing sicker than harming a child in the matter these pervs have done. Sick, sick, sick.

Folks, this is a serious issue. Obviously, you are more fixated on your skin colors and someone elses skin color than these precious, little children. Who really gives a sh@t if there is a mention of "latinos" are not. Really!

Is it any different what a molestors skin color is? Is the sick crime more forgivable is if he is "latino"? Is it any worse?

I don't understand you people. Quit thinking about your sorry little lives, get out of your little world of "ethnicities" and be a part of the solution - look at for the welfare of children and vote for judges to lock these pervs up for ever (actually, I would prefer death to them)

I'm all for castration - chemical or surgical, makes no difference to me.

Just a minimum of 10 years behind bars - why is it that the children are always victimized. 10 years is nothing for what this animals have done. I would be outragious and would be at the doorsteps of his place of employment.

I thought you couldn't tell a persons ethnicity by there name? What is all this talk about them not being of Latin decent? How do you know?

Hey did anybody mind Traci Lords, she did child porn, well until she turned 18.....lol

Guys freaking loved her! AND didn't care that she wasn't 18. That is where this ALL BEGAN!

Thanks boys for making a market for child pornography, way to go!!!!

Daugtherofimmigrant –

many people work in manufacturing companies. You stereotype manufacturing jobs as just for “latino”? What kind of a racist are you? Daughter of immigrant from where, KKK land?! I bet a Chinese built your computer, yeah, made in China, you dimwit. A dimwit that makes light and fun of child molestation.

I am just blown away about you all throwing race into the victimization of these poor children. Probably hundreds of thousands of victims on the pervs computers. There is nothing sicker than harming a child in the matter these pervs have done. Sick, sick, sick.
This is a serious issue. Obviously, you are more fixated on your skin colors and someone elses skin color than these precious, little children. Who really gives a sh@t if there is a mention of "latinos" are not. Really!

Your right HS, Camdad does not have to disclose where he worked, which he probably would not. But since he put it out there, of course it will stir the curiosity of the public. Camdad, if you don't want to be asked questions as such, don't put it out for questions.

Thats all.

Camdad, whats goin on here, only 1 post on this article? Hey how do we know these folks arent Canadian, or European, I say Deport them anyways, and cut their pee pees too.

Anyways, these people are sick !@#$%, how do they pray on these poor little kids. I hate these pervs. I hope my latino gangbangers get in touch with one of these prerverds

Actually, I've worked in the manufacturing field, DOD, Aerospace, Medical - and the majority of manufacturing are latinos and asians - which are very high skilled positions and require intense thinking - requiring using precision tooling and so on. Reading blueprints, where many are totally clueless. Including many management positions do not understand it.
So, i wouldn't bag on the persons in manufacturing, they are highly skilled persons. Thanks

Back to the topic, these persons should be castrated, after the beating by JR.

First to you CITIZEN - You must be new here. When I first started participating in the comment section I was the first to be appauled when I read comments of "Latino, Hispanic, Chicano" being accused, many of the people here who comment know that when it comes to defending them (minorities) I will be one of the first to do so.
I made that comment because all of us who comment here know that CAMDAD is quick to blame the minorities or Oxnard for anything that happens even when it has nothing to do with minorities or the town.
So in other words I was being sarcastic!
You don't know me, you don't know the long hours I volunteer with kids in my town in order to keep them from getting involved in any gang activities or become victims of people like in this story. I coach children and after practice sit in a dark parking lot waiting for parents to show up to finally pick up their kids, BTW My life is not sorry nor little, way to busy, wish there were more hours in a day.
Just a bit of info for you CITIZEN, I was molested as a little girl, this is why I dedicate all of my free time to my children and coaching other kids, I volunteer where ever possible and drive kids to practices or games when their parents are too busy. At one point I almost divorced because my husband felt I spent to much time with the kids and not enough at home, I had to tell him why, and now he supports my efforts 100%, So save it! Probably more info than you would need but thought you needed to hear it.

High Society - that would have been me, yup I mentioned Latinos first, why because I noticed CamDad had already put in in his two cents, and coming from reading a previous comment he had made I was being sarcastic towards him. Notice how he hasn't come back to post anything?

Why I mentioned the manufacturing business was because again I WAS BEING SARCASTIC.
In reference to what I would do to these guys or anyone molesting any child, like my daughter says; "I would skin them then poor lemon juice on them and then skin them again".

Posted by NightLight on August 20, 2008 at 12:53 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Not that these aren't sick individuals in desperate need of help, and not that they don't pose a threat to our kids, but I'd be even happier if they could catch the people that actually make the films/take the pictures involving kids since they are actually doing physical and emotional harm to the kids being exploited.

Posted by BeaHappi on August 20, 2008 at 1:31 p.m. (Suggest removal)

NightLight...I totally agree with you! And hopefully by catching some of the buyers of this stuff authorities can be led to the creeps who created the material.

I wonder what degree of the child porn is actually shot outside of the United States? I would imagine it's pretty high. So that would complicate things even more.

Sick, sick losers! Anyone who does anything like this to a child or gets off on it, doesn't deserve to walk the earth. Is there even a cure for these deviants? Chemical or surgical castration or death may just be the only ways.

Posted by daugtherofimmigrant on August 20, 2008 at 1:54 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Beahappi - You asked if there is a cure? No.

Very sad part is that it usually involves a relative.
The worst part of it is what the child goes through, let me tell you happi, I will never forget what happened to me, you look at life different, causes you to feel like you are worthless, not good enough, and dirty. Most don't tell out of fear of hurting their parents, putting them through that pain, so you would rather not say a word. You are left wondering who else they have hurt you look at your little brothers and cousins and wonder, but too afraid to speak in fear that your family will blame you. We all say that if it happened to our children we would kill that person that dare touch them, but I have seen so many cases where that has been said and when they find out their niece or nephew of even child was hurt, they blame the child and or don't do anything about it they keep it hush hush.
This happens more than we think, but so many keep silent. My advice to all parents - don't trust anyone with your kids, no one.

Posted by BeaHappi on August 20, 2008 at 2:34 p.m. (Suggest removal)

daugtherofimmigrant...so sorry for what happened in your past. I completely understand. Growing up our family was affected by this type of situation - also a relative.

I don't think that these kind of sick, sick people can change. That's why I am serious about castration, death, or them never getting out of prison.

Posted by daugtherofimmigrant on August 20, 2008 at 2:45 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Yeah thanks, this is why I am out with the kids. Castration? I guess that would help some.. but not all the time, if it were up to me, I would keep them locked up this way they could never hurt anyone else.

Posted by BeaHappi on August 20, 2008 at 2:48 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Keeping them locked up forever definitely works for me.

Posted by opns on August 20, 2008 at 3:49 p.m. (Suggest removal)

daugtherofimmigrant - i too feel your pain and understand you whole heartedly. Your venting, and this is good - as you probably already know, that talking about it is healing. Yes you can journalize and all of that, but when you speak it to enrich others. This is healing. You know already that your not alone in this battle against within the families. Unless people have not been through this, they will never understand the type of convictions you speak of. I commend you for speaking of this. I was a victim myself - and this is why I wholeheartedly believe this is one of the reasons why parents should be held accountable for the actions of their children. This and that God tells us that we are will be held accountable for our children.

Oh Camdad...you are cracking me up! I like the part about you playing the race card in 2013. Heck, as you know, I live in Oxnard so being caucasian, I guess that I can already play it! Awesome!

So I have to ask...when you worked with Tyler at the Ojai Valley Inn (GREAT property btw)did you suspect that he was a deviant? You know how some ppl just give you the creeps even if you can't figure out why?

Oh you didn't just tell me to shut my pie hole? WTF?? So now you are the only one intitled to open it? Double WTF? LOL!!
You are to funny. Your comments as well as mine are welcome here, (or not sometimes) we maybe right or wrong but at the end of the day we are all intitled to put in our two cents. Right?
This is what is so cool it is o.k. to disagree, it just goes to show where we stand and what we believe in and its all good.
If we were all the same how boring life would be. Don't you think?

See in a previous story you said that the death of the man at the bank was more likely to happen in Oxnard than Camarillo. I was bothered by that comment, and it's o.k. I disagree with you, and that is o.k. too.
I say it wouldn't have happened if he would have stayed in his home in OXNARD.

Point is your life is going to end one day, the truth is we don't know how. BUT another fact is that when a person dies so many questions are left unanswered. We will always have the, should have would have, and could have.

I do agree with your frustrations but I don't agree with the reasons you have behind it.
I just don't believe that we should have to leave our town unless we don't care and don't want to do anything about the problems in it.
I live in SP and I hate so many things about it but love way to many to leave just yet. I hate the little support our kids sports get from the city, how High Schools don't have lockers, the little gang bangers. Right now I feel like I make a difference with my children and their friends. If I left now I feel that perhaps these kids would be left walking home in the dark because their parents are still at work or who knows where, I feel like I have abondoned them. It feels great to be needed, to have a teenager come and talk to you about what ever is in their little heads thats bothering them. Who knows when and if I will ever leave.
But see.. we all have the right to live where we want until we want to and not be critized for it. It's great that you love Camarillo so much and that you are so proud of it. I used to work in Camarillo and I loved working there but I loved coming back home, going to Vons and knowing that you are going to run into someone you know.
Know what I mean?
I don't throw the race card, sh!t most in Oxnard and S.P. are Hispanic and truth of the matter is if something happens in either town it will most likely be a Hispanic involved.
I blame the person who commits the crime not the race, color, or the city where it happened.
What tickles me is that when something happens, somehow some way a comment like "I bet it was an illegal" pops up, well maybe it was or maybe it wasn't, but seriously does it have to come up in every story?
It doesn't get to me anymore, I think it's funny now, this is why I brought it up one time before anyone else did. Hell what ever!

OPNS - You asked where the parents are? Sometimes parents have no idea, I know my parents always tried to protect me, I was never allowed to spend the night at a friends house, because my parents always said "I know they are good people but you never know". Yet they never thought that their own family members would be capable of such a thing.
My mom always said "who better then your own family to care for our kids" well.. guess again. You just never know.
This is why it is so important to talk to our kids let them know that we would always believe them before anyone.
My mom and I never talk about this, I would much rather speak to someone else about it than her, I know this hurts her and I would rather not touch the subject. I know that she thinks she failed to protect me, she will never understand that it wasn't her fault. She thinks I tell her that it wasnt her fault because I feel sorry for her and to make her feel better, although I do feel bad for her, I know it wasn't her fault, I don't blame her, I would never dare. All she ever did was love me, care for me and try to protect me. She is my mom and I love her. My dad doesn't know, my dad would have killed, and I need my dad with me not in jail. :O)

I never let my daughter stay anywhere, i was very adament about this. Yet, i always had fun when taking all of the neighborhood kids to mcdonalds, and being second mom to most. also, all of the slumber parties my daughter had, i have good memories of my girl and her close knit friends - i protected them like they were my own. my greatest fears were the field trips to the huge amusement parks, my gosh, i didn't have enough eyes and arms - i was always on the defense. people use to call me the overprotected mom - yeah okay, i'll take that.
there was once a little girl she was a beautiful child - i remember, the parents always partying, i use to babysit. when they moved from the apartment complex, two years later, i found out that the child died in a drowning two houses down. this broke my heart and i'll never forget her. i use to babysit before i had my own. this little girl at the age of 1-1/2 had glasses with the thickest lenses i've ever seen. it was said she wondered off without her glasses. i to this day believe it was negligence.

opns...I'm with you! I'd much rather have all of the neighborhood kids over at my house. Some of the parents have never even come down to meet us, even though their kids spend a ton of time at our house! I finally walked to their house and introduced myself and I always make their kids go and tell the parents if they are going to play in our backyard.

I don't get it. My kids aren't allowed to play in their house or backyard...even though I took the initiative to meet them. I figure that there must be some good reason their kids are always out on their bikes or playing in the streets!

Posted by opns on August 21, 2008 at 2:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I did the same - introduce myself - my god, my husband and I would look at each other in disbelief. It was so hard not to be judgemental at the same time. When we took walks, she was not allowed to walk onto peoples yards, and taught her boundaries as a young tot. It doesn't have to be hard to be a good parent, i just don't get it sometimes with these foolish parents.
That's why i believe in change gang - change gang the parents and label them with "my kid doing ___ time", that will teach parents, hopefully. I know i would telling my kid, "don't you even think of ...."
Good for you Bea, i commend you from one good loving parent to another.

OMG!! I am the same way about my kids walking/playing on other people's yards, driveways, etc. You're right, it's about boundaries.

The kids in our cul-de-sac are really nice kids. But from the day they moved in they've been hanging at our house and not once did a parent walk down to see where they were or to meet us.

On one hand I think it's great that they are so trusting and feel comfortable, but why wouldn't you insist on meeting people before letting your kids hang out with them?

Anyways...I told my husband I don't care how many snacks we go through...I want our house to be the hangout place.

Camdad – I’m going to try and read between the lines of your last comment, and along with the link.
I have found that topics as this could be so very healing to so many – including myself. I enjoy speaking of my accomplishments of being a good parent along with Bea and You. I in my past and present was taught to journalize for healing – and yes it works. But most of all – when speaking and giving testimony for others to heal, is the ultimate gift to heal the soul. I thank you for the link Camdad – many out in the public will read this along with other comments – and the prayer is that of healing and insight to the negligent. Since I’ve started commenting, my prayer book as become more lengthy. I don’t know what your higher power is Camdad, please pray for me – as I trust and believe that God listens to you.
And NO, I do not believe your going to hell. And I also believe that those sick molester, perverts and murderers will one day have to meet the wrath of the Lord. Your a good dad, and yes one day your daughter will give you much thanks.
Respectfully yours.

I am so sorry, Daughter and anyone else who has had to go through this! I agree with you that castration may be useful in some cases but not all - without getting too graphic, there are many ways a sick individual could harm children even if he was impotent, so I don't think that would be a useful punishment.

OPNS- an instigator? No those were not my intentions. If you could go back and read comments that have been made in previous stories you would see how some how immigrants, illegals, Latinos get thrown in most every story. It's just getting old for me, I was being sarcastic, and if you read my comment (long) you will see my explination.

OPN Camdad, and Happi, you are all wonderful parents, you sound very much like me. My house is the hang out house as well, cup o noodles, and snacks are a must at my home.
Kids hang out at all times and with all honesty I don't know most of their parents, I have seen them around but not really met them all. Which is very sad, makes me wonder how much they really care about them?

NightLight - thanks, and I agree, castration would not solve the problem. Im not sure if you are a parent, but if I can give you any advice as a victim always be a part of your children, talk to them, let them know that they can trust you with anything, it is so important to talk to them about this.
What I have found is that while we are eating dinner (at my house) we talk about what we read in the paper, or hear in the news. Sometimes as parents we don't know how to start a conversation about cases like, teen parents, gangs, teens having sex, or being molested or unwanted attention and I find talking about whats in the news helps a lot and it breaks the ice.

I find parents saying "well it makes our kids uncomfortable" No, it makes parents uncomfortable. Kids want you to talk to them, they are dying to get advice, although they pretend not to care or listen believe me they are taking it all in.

Camdad - you are not going to hell!

no i'm not going back to re-read, thats regression remember - , i just went by this story only, progression, that's why i said instigator. Make sense?

Oh, thank you for the complement, and to you too

Newspaper conversations at the dinner table - as long as it dosen't cause indigestion - so its been said that it does. They say dinner should be a pleasant one. But i'm guilty of that too.

Camdad - i don't care what they say about you, I think your alright - i have ESP and i can sense thru this form of communication. haha
Sense of humor, and sometimes bold - gets us thru. I was asked one time on the job - "opns, your a hard tough lady". I laughed. How true, and how sensitive i am to peoples feeling. But it got me thru the tough times. Of course with gods help. Couldn't of been possible.

Camdad - your absolutely right, not everyone can tell if one is joking or serious, or being sarcastic with ones comments.
OPN-I was being sarcastic, never was it my intent to instigate anything.
Conversations at the table work for us only because of the crazy schedule we have at home, after work I drive to the kids school pick them up we have 15 minutes to change into practice clothes, drop them off at practice, I go pick up my little one at day care, go pick up my daughter at her practice, then we go back to the young ones and coach them, once we are done we make our rounds dropping kids off (not mine), go home prepare dinner, sit at the table, get them ready for the next day, I finish picking up the house and sit and take a breath. Phew that tired me out just typing this.
So dinner conversations is where I find that kids are sittiing quite and focused. My litle one sometimes says "mah wha happen today". Kinda cute.
They have found that their teachers also touch subjects from the newspaper and they feel smart because they know exactly what the teacher is talking about. :O)
