Two young men and a teenage boy were arrested Thursday night in Moorpark after they allegedly pulled a knife on a young woman and stole her purse, authorities said.
The 19-year-old victim of Thousand Oaks snapped a digital photo of her alleged assailants before they made off with the camera and her purse, Ventura County Sheriff's Department officials said.
The robbery occurred about 11:20 p.m. at Peach Hill Park at 13204 Peach Hill Road in Moorpark, authorities said.
Responding deputies detained Julio Castro, 20, Jose Mendoza, 19, both from Moorpark, in the greenbelt area near Laurelhurst Road, and a 17-year-old boy, also from Moorpark, near Quail Summit and Fireside Lane.
The victim and witnesses identified the three as the assailants, all of the stolen property was recovered and the knife was located near the suspects, authorities said.
Deputies found a photo on the woman's camera of two males attempting to cover their faces with clothes matching those of Castro and Mendoza.
Both men were booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of robbery and participating in a street gang.
Castro was held Friday in lieu of $210,000 bail.
Mendoza had an additional charge of giving false information to a peace officer and was held without bail Friday.
The boy was booked into the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of robbery and participating in a street gang.

There shouldn't be a juvenile in this case. You play with a gang you should have to pay with the gang. Treat them all as adults and make them do time!

Glad she wasn't hurt, although, very emotional. I was a victim of purse snatching in broad daylight - it took so long to recover from that one incident. The feelings of violation of enormous. I'll have to add, that was quick response in taking that picture. Good for you!

This is exactly why I am licensed and carry a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol with me at ALL times! I pray for the first jack-a** that pulls a knife on me and threatens my life over a few dollars...that would be his final mistake in life.

Hey jjp009,
I completely agree with CCW for ALL law abiding citizens. Too bad the VC Sheriff doesn't see it the same way.
I feel sorry for those honest citizens who aren't smart enough to own and know how to use a personal weapon. It amazes me to think that people honestly believe law enforcement could make it to their location (before their compromise) to save their sorry life.
Its too bad the cops didn't SMOKE these three and clean the gene pool...

1Patriot: You're right. I do consider myself very lucky to be one of the privileged few with a CCW. I am also very fortunate that I have NEVER had to use my weapon in a defensive situation, but the way the world is going...I know someday I will. That's when I realized what many people don't...that most times no one will be able to protect you except you, and I wouldn't have wasted a split second smoking these gang banging bags of crap as soon as I saw the glint of that blade being raised toward me!

At first I thought the robbers were just ignorant for not thinking to erase the pictures on the camera. Then I realized, the way things are going, they probably thought it was "cool" and they were figuring out how to post it on Myspace....

opns...
I just went to http://805vigilantes.blogspot.com/ and the concept is great. I'd love to see something like this take hold, but my guess is a good part of the reason for the decay in Ventura county is a good percentage of the parents are lazy and expect someone else (city/state)to do the hard part of raising their offspring. Sadly, we're seeing our entire country turn because of losers who are too lazy to snap a knot in that kid's butt when he/she needs it. Of course, there's the scum bag lawyers and POLITICAL CORRECTNESS to take us down. Add all of this to Liberal politicians and we're pretty much screwed.

HS - Oxnard Police Department ----
This is an excellent idea, i agree the parents should be held accountable by attending meeting that are already in place and should get lessons on how to protect their children from criminal activity.
I support you. and I hope others will Support you too.

Brownpride,
They're all not from Mexico, Black or Caucasian. Trash comes in all colors and nationalities. The problem is we don't weed out the trash. Our politically correct society won't allow it and we wind up wasting tax dollars on programs to fix kids that should have been fixed at home. Those same tax dollars could have been spent on school programs that would make our country stronger by making our youth smarter. Face it, our kids are a reflection of the lazy, undiciplined, parents who start them off on the wrong foot with crap for music, crap for TV shows and allow them to be influenced by pitiful moral standards.
