Woman dies in crash that injures five

A woman was killed and five people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday in Simi Valley, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 10:51 a.m. in the middle of the intersection of Kuehner Drive and Katherine Road, Simi Valley police Sgt. Adam Darough said.

Shirley Green, 67, of Simi Valley was found in the driver's seat of one of the vehicles and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials. An autopsy was scheduled for today.

A boy in the passenger seat of her vehicle suffered moderate to major injuries, authorities said. His condition was unavailable late Wednesday.

The man who was driving the second vehicle and his three juvenile passengers suffered minor to moderate injuries, police said.

Emergency personnel began to render first aid to the injured victims and took them to Simi Valley Hospital and Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in Thousand Oaks for treatment.

Investigators were still working Wednesday to determine how and why the crash occurred, Darough said.

Police restricted traffic flow at the intersection, but the roadway remained open, he said.

Prayers to all involved. To the deceased, my sincere condolences. It was probably her grandchild in the car with her, poor thing to witness all of this. Hope he gets some sort of conseling.

So sad. My heart goes out to all of the families involved. I couldn't imagine being in a car accident where someone was killed. It would rip me apart.

No offense, Ms California, that was an odd choice of words to use :)

That was a poor choice of words to use, but I don't think that she meant it intentionally, or at least I would hope that she wouldn't because that would be very heartless.

My sincere condolences to the family

I don't either. It was not my intention to upset anyone in the families involved. It was obviously a figure of speech and I would hope that everyone on here would take it as such.... which we both know will be taken at their own context... now I will be blasted for it! Thanks Hue girl for pointing it out to every one! haha!!! Your gonna have to back me up now! Com'on I used to be a Hue girl!

I feel so bad for the little boy; to be in the accident when his grandma died. How sad. I hope that he has a speedy recovery and knows that his grandma is now an angel watching over him.

My condolences the the family and friends.
