Two additional candidates have qualified for November's Thousand Oaks City Council race, bringing the total to seven people seeking two available seats.

Ernest LeGault and Greg Akrey qualified for the ballot Monday, City Clerk Linda Lawrence said. They will join Mayor Jacqui Irwin and Councilman Tom Glancy, who are seeking re-election, and challengers Al Adam, Holly LaRue and Ramaul Rush on the Nov. 4 ballot.

LeGault, who owns a software company and property management company, serves as president of the Conejo Valley Youth Orchestra's board of directors and has been involved in a number of school-related committees. LeGault said he is interested in the financial future of the city and getting the most value for each dollar.

"The main job is to be a good steward with the public's money," LeGault said of being a council member. "I'd like to make sure the money is being spent in a conservative yet progressive way."

LeGault said he is concerned about the city's fiscal support of the day laborer site and interested in the arts consultant's report laying out proposed changes in the organizations that support the Civic Arts Plaza. Along with fiscal issues, he said, he is concerned with maintaining programs that support senior citizens in the community and providing programs and places for children.

Akrey, who operates a nonprofit detox clinic for methamphetamine and heroin users, said he is running to raise awareness of the addiction problem. "Change has to happen in the community," he said. "It's a problem that we all have to deal with."
