Teens arrested after car chase through Ventura

A teen driver was arrested last night along with his passenger after he allegedly led police on a chase through Ventura, hitting a California Highway Patrol vehicle and three other cars, the CHP reported.

The chase began about 9:34 p.m. when a CHP officer attempted to stop a car that was weaving in lanes near the State Beaches exit from Highway 101, according to a prepared statement from the CHP.

The car, which was previously reported stolen in Santa Barbara, slowed to a stop at Thompson Boulevard then sped off.

When the car hit a light pole near the intersection of Thompson and Oaks Street, the officer got out of his patrol vehicle. The suspect vehicle then allegedly backed up and rammed his patrol car before speeding away, according to the statement.

The driver of the car then struck three more vehicles before becoming tangled in a chain-link fence near the intersection of Main Street and Olive Street.

The officer then arrested the 17-year-old driver and his 16-year-old passenger. They had minor injuries.

Both boys are Santa Barbara residents. They were not identified because of their age.

What idiots!!! Now instead of graduation, prom, and football games they get to sit in jail and think about how stupid their little joy ride was. I hope they had fun cause they have a rude awakening coming.

Sounds like an exciting chase, too bad there's no video.

"graduation, prom, and football games"

I am guessing kids who were willing to risk their lives by getting into a chase, were probably not the kind who would actually graduate, go to prom or football games.

Pog, that article is HARSH! The police said that the operation was compromised when the mother-in-law saw the police and screamed. It may have given someone time to grab a gun or destroy evidence.

What? Do you flush 32 pounds of herb?

Posted by katiec23 on August 8, 2008 at 9:25 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I was on Main St. and saw it. They hit one car head on, and rammed into others while weaving through downtown construction. The passenger was laughing the whole time. Pretty disgusting.

Posted by janabanana71 on August 8, 2008 at 9:28 a.m. (Suggest removal)

The two kids should be extremely grateful that the CHP officer didn't unload his weapon on the car they were in, for fear of his life being put in jeopardy when they began to back up and hit his car. This could have ended much worse for them than it did. And thankfully, the officer wasn't injured when the teenage numbnuts tried to back up and get away! All things considered, this turned out very well.

Sunbear 32 pounds of herb is for smoking. This high speed chase could have killed someone. These boys arent laughing now they will be cooling off in jail rather than the beach.

Can you imagine what would have happened if they hit someone and killed someone? It could have easily happened. Kids now adays have so few good role models. I am only 20 and when asked who my role model is I can't think of anyone besides my parents. What about the kids who don't even have their parents to look up to? I truley believe that we need to take accountability for our media

Feel sorry for the folks that had their cars damaged by these idiots. I am dissapointed that the officer did not unload on them as previously mentioned, they used their vehicle to try and kill the officer, that is self defense. Would have done the rest of us a favor.

Yah I am harsh, but kids now days are out of control.

Anyone remember back in the days when your parents would remind you of who was in charge untill you where out of the house.

They should make them work, cleaning freeway, all public places. The money they get should be towards the damage they caused. They should also hang a sign laugh at me for being an idiot.

Yea, my mom always said, "hey, don't like the rules under my roof, you know the way out young lady."

Of course, I always ended up going back to my room with my tail between my legs.

omie- it is the liberal lawyers, judges, politicians who are in control now.
I have a co-worker who just lost custody of his ten year old son. He spanked his son in public (yes, a smack on the butt) for shoplifting. This was the third time he has caught his son shoplifting. because a witness testified in court that they saw him spank his own child for stealing, the court took his child away.
when you have judges like this in charge, how are parents supposed to discipline their own children? I thank my parents every time I see them for keeping me on the straight and narrow. I could have easily strayed off the right path, but the occasional butt whooping was always at the back of my head.

or, these kids could just be bad seeds.

Fedup My sister has no problem in keeping her daughter in line, and I am truely sorry for the parents now days with the state tying their hands. Maybe the state can do a better job of rasing these kids, oh but we have to pay for it.

Any chance anyone know how to get a judge dismissed for being a Liberal? Bring back some old school habits to keep our future caregivers on the right track.

FedUp-

I was spanked and I think that's why I turned out fine....

*crossing fingers* lol.

Anyway, kids have way too many rights now a days.

"Any chance anyone know how to get a judge dismissed for being a Liberal?"

haha. do some research come election time.
the sad thing is, it comes down to being a liberal or a conservative. if only the two sides could agree to meet in the middle, we would have a nice happy medium. of course, then what would we have to blog about on here????

Posted by dse_kpa on August 8, 2008 at 11:23 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Hey now, I am a liberal, and, believe me, even I believe in a little ol' fashioned spanking. There is a HUGE difference between the occassional spanking and down-right child-abuse, and I agree that some kids now a days get away with too much sh**.

After a couple of spankings, all my parents had to do was give me 'the look' and I was scared straight to do anything wrong.

Posted by patticakepatti on August 8, 2008 at 11:24 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I'm surprised the officer didn't shoot him, as I recall, a VPD officer shot a teenager who was driving a stolen vehicle that tried to run into him and this was pretty recent.

Posted by stave1 on August 8, 2008 at 11:27 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Fedup! I'm fedup with kids. I say we go back to spanking in public, embarrasing the kids or any other thing to make them behave. I've had trouble with the police trying to discipline my kids. In SP they said there was nothing I could do to straighten my kid out. I couldn't kick her out of my house because she wasn't 18 yrs yet. But, I'll tell you all the minute she turned 18 she was kicked out!!!!!!! She hasn't been back. She is now getting it. Going to school (college, and working) to support herself, because she knows I did everything in my power to shape her up. With the influence of the smart a$$ crowd she was sure to make me nuts. Let's just go back to beating kids within an inch of their lives and giving them chores and forget the DS, play station, and wii.

Santa Barbara Kids??? I'm sure they are already home and at the beach on the southern riviera of Santa Barbara. They will be back.....

My car was stolen from the Santa Barbara High School parking lot during the Joe c---er / Steve Miller concert at the bowl from a paid parking lot. I left it there at about 6:30 before going to the show, and when I got back around 9:30 there was ony a bunch of glass where my car used to be. So Katie23, I would like to speak with you about what you saw, as I am extremely distraught about this, my Mother left me this car when she passed and i would really like to get these jerks to pay for what they did. I also would really like to thanks the CHP and especially the VPD who actually told me where my car was, when I could not get any answers. Thank God no one was seriously hurt.

You are the nightmare of all law enforcement agencies. It is not the responsibility of any police department to discipline your child or raise them! They are here to enforce the law.

What were they thinking?
Yes, they need to make them pick up trash on the road and pay off the damages. Don't just make the parents pay for it; the kids need to be accountable.

loannew - so sorry to hear this. It looked like a nice older car. I can email you if you give me your address, I'm afraid I don't have much more helpful info than the article though. But if you want someone to make a statement, my husband and I were there. You may want to contact the City because all of the construction workers saw it too. They had to dodge the car, in fact. At one point when they were stopped all of the construction workers started heading for the car (I wish they made made it all the way) but then they started ramming cars and sped off again. It's sad to see people act like such idiots.

juniormafia, If it was one of your brothers I do not believe you would say such a thing. I wouldn't wish that on anyone!
omie,I didn't read that the Officer was actually in the car when they reversed it........
Its really sad everyone one wants kids shot at and killed for screwing up ! They can get help and turn thier life around.I have seen it done!!!!!!!
And yes I am Thankful the Officer is ok.Thank God!
FedUp,That is terrible to take the kids away because the Dad spanked him. See the government is telling how to raise our kids. I remember having to go out and pick a switch off the tree for that use. Went back and read it again and yes the Officer was out of the car. So he had no reason to fear for his life.
NOW , I really hope this is an eye opener to these teens and they do some time. And can straighten out thier life before its too late to.

Just think about it...what if it was your car, a car you cherished and took the best care of for years. All I did was go to a concert at the Santa Barbara bowl last night...paid for parking, came out, and it was gone, nothing but glass left where my car was. Empty 40 oz. beer bottle in the car, and they probably totaled that beautiful cadillac. My insurance company will probably screw me even tho I have paid them faithfully for years. How would you all feel? I am not sure if I wish the highway patrolman would have shot him, but I do know that the guy could have seriously hurt or possibly killed someone else using my car, and I don't know how I would have lived with that. Everyone in Ventura knows my car...it has lived here since 1993, parked every day and night in front of the Ventura Theater. I get nothing but compliments on my car, especially from car guys that appreciate it. I live so close to Oxnard...and no one has ever done anything to my car. I go to Sata Barbara...and 2 guys steal it, and bring it here and crash it 3 blocks from where I work. Go figure... I still can't get over it...

Posted by juniormafia_ny on August 8, 2008 at 2:09 p.m. (Suggest removal)

rrronio, it was your car? the only cadillac that I always see in front of the Majestic is the 1993 or 94 Fleetwood Cadillac, that's not it, right?

yes...that very same cadillac...i am devasted.

Posted by AnnaWhaat on August 8, 2008 at 2:16 p.m. (Suggest removal)

juniormafia_ny ,Some do and some don't. But to wish it on them in a violent way is not right. Some are willing and some aren't. We all have needs of one sort or another. And Bubba is one who takes what he wants regardless. And one day Bubba may get out and be walking the streets near your home or family's home. Scary to think.......I do not condone rape in prison or on the streets or anywhere period. To wish it is to condone it.
rrronio ,Was it your car that they took? And yes I do know how it feels to have a car you love stolen. Thank God I do not know how it feels to have my home burned to the ground with everything I own and cherish in it. Pictures, home videos, trophys etc. If this was your car I am sorry it was stolen. Just as I was when ours was stolen. I am not saying not to punish these punks.......Im saying they do not deserve death wished upon them and other things to happen to them in jail. That is my theory......

Posted by rrronio on August 8, 2008 at 3:42 p.m. (Suggest removal)

If anyone knows their names...they should be posted. I do not, but I do know they were only hurt due to their own actions. When my car caught on fire the passenger jumped out of the window hurting himself....and he hit his head on the windsheild and broke it when they hit the pole. All their own fault. When I went to go see the car, they had left their cell phone in it, and I turned it over to the highway patrol...I did not abuse authority by taking any numbers. I am sure the oldest one will be treated as an adult, at least assult with a deadly weapon on an officer for one charge, and minor in possesion, under the influence, DUI, just to name a few charges. I hope the District Attorney takes a good hard look at this. My car was a 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, left to me when my mother died. It meant the world to me, and no, it cannot be replaced. I will however do my best to get them to fix it as much as possible. Hopefully the spinners will be turning again in front of the theater some day. Thanks to all my friends and Cadillac lovers leaving posts...

Stave1-

Having worked at SBHS as teacher/coach for the last nine years I can tell you that not all the kids in SB are rich by a long shot. These two losers probably wanted some attention that nobody has been given them.

Posted by FedUp on August 8, 2008 at 9:58 p.m. (Suggest removal)

SB has a bigger gang problem than ventura right now. it does not help them at all that the mayor is a puppet for the police chief, who just so happens to be in the US under suspicious terms. SB is quickly turning into a sanctuary city, along the lines of San Francisco. It is only a matter of time till the gang element drifts south into ventura county.
I say all this without knowing anything about the two criminals. I am just speaking based on what is the norm in SB.

Posted by Monotremata on August 11, 2008 at 8:32 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Ok how does Santa Barbara become a sanctuary city? Hell most of the people I work with at UCSB cant even afford to live there..
Where are all the lowlifes getting the money to live up there?
