"How Good Books turn into Bad Films and other Sordid Tales from Hollywood"
VCPWN presents its August General Meeting, Dinner and Silent Auction on Thursday, August 14, 2008. "How Good Books turn into Bad Films and other Sordid Tales from Hollywood" will be the theme of this event. We will examine the process of adapting a book into a screenplay with author, director and producer, Bruce Cook. Bruce will take us through the ins and outs of how a book becomes a movie and what makes it successful.Originally Bruce was a laser physicist on the Apollo Project, before discovering that filmmaking was more fun. He later earned his PhD in Film. He teaches Cinema in Los Angeles. Among his 4,000 former students are 7 Academy Award and 12 Emmy winners. His latest book Blood Harvest is based on a family incident about moonshine and the KKK in rural New England in the 1920s.Bruce has served as consultant on dozens of independent feature films. He recently designed a course titled Globalization of Media. Currently he is teaching Theology of the Horror Film.
