COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Notre Dame club to feature Weis

Charlie Weis, the Notre Dame coach, will be the guest speaker for the Notre Dame Club of Ventura County on May 8 at noon at the Ventura Beach Marriott.

Weis has been successful in recruiting Santa Clara High senior Cierre Wood and Oaks Christian's Jimmy Clausen, now a sophomore quarterback.

St. Bonaventure's Terrail Lambert is a senior cornerback for the Irish.

Wood, the No. 1 running back in the nation, announced his commitment to Notre Dame on April 19.

Diefenthaler commits to Nevada

Newbury Park High wide receiver Danny Diefenthaler has committed to the University of Nevada.

Diefenthaler was a three-year starter for Newbury Park. He caught 30 passes for 431 yards and 4 TDs last season for the Marmont League co-champion.

Diefenthaler is a Young Athletes for Christ and Fusion Football Clinic alumni.

CIF moves title sites to Angel Stadium

The 2008 Pac-5 and Southwestern Division championship football games will be held at Angel Stadium in Anaheim on Dec. 13.

For the past three years and four of the last five, the CIF-Southern Section has played three divisional finals at the Home Depot Center in Carson. The section office could not come to terms with the Home Depot Center for 2008, according to a release.

It means that the Northern Division championship game will return to the area.

Moorpark was the 2006 Division IV runner-up at the Home Depot Center, while St. Bonaventure won the 2007 Northern Division title.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Birgel commits to UC Santa Barbara

Alex Birgel, a center fielder for Thousand Oaks High, has signed a national letter of intent to play for UC Santa Barbara.

Birgel is batting .420 with six home runs and 23 RBIs.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASEBALL

Oxnard's Siddons signs with Fullerton

Joey Siddons, a medical redshirt out of Oxnard College, has signed to play for Cal State Fullerton.

Siddons will be joining former Camarillo High teammates Cory Jones, a sophomore, and junior Erik Komatsu.

Komatsu transferred from Oxnard College. Former Ventura College pitcher Greg Gelber, from Agoura, is a sophomore.

GOLF

Simi Kiwanis Club hosts celebrity event

The Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley will host a charity golf tournament on Thursday at Moorpark Country Club. Richard Karn, from "Family Feud" and "Home Improvement" will be the celebrity host.

At least 36 celebrities will join every foursome. Brett Cullen, from "Lost", Tucker Smallwood of "Star Trek: Enterprise" and Brian Baumgartner of "The Office" are the latest celebrities announced.
