Dillon signs free-agent deal with Colts
The NFL draft hadn't been completed for five minutes when Charles Dillon finally got the call.
After two days of watching NFL draft coverage, the former Hueneme High and Ventura College receiver had stepped out for a quick bite to eat when the Indianapolis Colts called to offer him a free-agent contract.
It didn't take him two days to decide to join the AFC South power.
What receiver wouldn't want to catch passes from Peyton Manning?
"There were a few other teams talking to me before the draft, but that's where I wanted to go," said Dillon. "I just thought it would be a great place to be."
Dillon set Ventura College single-season records with 69 catches, 1,004 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2005. He also was the Most Valuable Player of the Western State Conference's North Division in basketball.
He caught 37 passes for 407 yards and three touchdowns this past fall as a Washington State senior.
Dillon will report to his first NFL minicamp in Indianapolis on Thursday.
If he makes the team this summer, he'll join another local product, former Buena High star Freddie Keiaho, on the Colts' roster.
