Salsa Festival Announces Charity Run in Downtown Oxnard

The Oxnard Salsa Festival will kick-off its 15th anniversary celebration of everything salsa with the Oxnard Salsa Dash, a 5K & 10K Run/Walk through downtown Oxnard on June 28, one month prior the Festival weekend. Presented in partnership with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training®, proceeds from the race will benefit the Society and their efforts to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

The Salsa Dash offers a sightseeing tour of downtown Oxnard. The run/walk begins at 8:00 a.m. at Heritage Square, proceeds through the downtown business district and the wide, tree-lined streets of the Henry T. Oxnard National Register Historic District, finishing at Plaza Park. The course is fast and flat, great for runners wanting to set new best personal times.

Race applications are available on line at www.oxnardsalsafestival.com and at Road Runner Sports, 1714 Newbury Park Road in Thousand Oaks. Pre-registration fees are $25 (5k); $30 (10k); and $15 (Kids Fun Run). On-site registration is $5 more for all levels. Entry fees include a souvenir t-shirt and gift bag.

The Salsa Dash is one of many activities slated for this year's 15th annual Oxnard Salsa Festival on July 26 & 27. Festival goers will relish the region's top salsa and Latin jazz bands, spicy food vendors, salsas to sample and buy in the Salsa Tasting Tent, two beer gardens, tortilla art in the kids korner, and an array of vendors selling hand-crafted items and exotic imports. The Festival takes place at Plaza Park, Fifth and "B" Streets, in downtown Oxnard. Festival admission and parking are free.
