NPHS Volleyball Beat Westlake The Second Time This Year

All the Newbury Park High School (NPHS) Boys Volleyball Teams Beat The Westlake High School Teams!
VARISITY WON IN 5 (Game Scores: 22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 15-13)
Wednesday, April 23, 2008 the Newbury Park Panthers took on the Westlake Warriors on the Warriors home court. The Panthers played and fought hard to win the match. This was truly an exciting match to watch keeping the fan were on the edge of their seats.
Coach Jorge reported, "Travis was unstoppable, he hit over 500. He saved us. At the net Stephen Santos and Brady Johnson played great games both, blocking for Santos and hitting for Brady. Coach Jorge felt that Johnson had his best overall match.
Kevin Alvarez passed great and was all over the court. He has become the libero Coach Jorge hoped he would be and is very proud of him. John Ramirez fought through some hard moments but came through in the end with some key digs and some great serving he even had a hit out of the back row. Micah Smith played well, diving for balls and passing real well.
Colby Cameron was awesome athlete the net: blocking, dumping the ball and setting a great game. He truly brought our effort together and that got us the win. What a delight it was to watch him dive and perform the leap of the year.
Mickey Kelleher came-up with a much needed solo block in the 5th game that changed the momentum of that game. Trevor Willenberg did everything right and was diving all over the court to hit the ball. He came through for the Panthers in the clutch and scored the final point to win the game.
The Panther Boys came together as a team to win the match. They showed great team effort! They fought hard and when they fell behind they fought back to win the match in five. Congrats NPHS Volleyball!
Team Stats: Zeller 18 kills, Willenberg 13 kills. Kelleher, Cameron, Johnson 4 blocks each
JUNIOR VARSITY WON (JV) IN 2 (Game Scores: 25-17 25-18)
Coach Jorge reported, that the Junior Varsity Team played a good all around effort. Blocking was great with Jake, Matt, Nick and David. All having solo blocks along with blocks in tandem. Steven had a great match defensively. He was all over the place sacrificing his body for the team. Royce had his usual great effort, along with his blocking and offense at the net.
FROSH/SOPH WON IN 2
The NPHS Frosh/Soph team defeated Westlake High School, a top ranked team in the league, in two straight sets. Coach Tim attributes the victory to an intense practice the day prior to their match. Coach Tim added, The team played their best game today. Kevin Baldwin led the panthers in kills, spiking eight kills to the floor. Sean Garry followed closely with 7 kills and also led the team in blocks. Daniel Dpsia made his first start as an outside hitter and impressed everybody. The Comeaux brothers showed their talents with several great defensive plays. Matt Bonfiglio and Alex Ostrovsky shared the co-captain role today ands subsequently demonstrated great poise on the court against the Warriors. The team's liberos, Ryan Wardell and Blake Silver brought their A-game, earning a total of 12 digs. The team looks forward to facing Simi Valley on Friday, who has a matching league record."

This was a nail-bitting and fun game to watch!!!! I am so glad you guys came together as a team and won!!!!Congrats!!
