Raptors at Humane Society Shelter Open House

HUMANE SOCIETY OF VENTURA COUNTY PLANS SPECIAL EVENT

TO CELEBRATE BE KIND TO ANIMALS WEEK

Humane Society of Ventura will hold a special Open House on May 3 to kick off "Be Kind to Animals Week" May 4 10. The public is welcome to tour the Ojai Shelter and participate in educational activities. The Ojai Raptor Center will be on hand for two presentations and will have one of its eagles there for the community to get an up close view of their wild neighbors.

"We are very pleased to host this event," stated Jolene Hoffman, Shelter Director. "The more education children and adults receive about the proper care of animals, the lower the number of animal abuse cases. The month of May is a perfect time as many are planning vacations, weekend trips and other activities with their pets."

Activities will include:

10:00 AM Ojai Raptor Center Presentation with live eagle

11:00 AM Children's Storytime

11:30 AM Kids, Critters & Safety with hands-on practice for children

3:00 PM Ojai Raptor Center Presentation with live eagle

Hourly tours of the shelter will begin at 11 AM and run until 4 PM

The Shelter's Humane Officer, Humane Educator and Volunteer Coordinator will be on hand all day to answer questions about animal care, proper diet and how someone can become a pet walker or volunteer to help at the Shelter. Refreshments will be served throughout the day and people are encouraged to bring a blanket or towel to sit on during the presentations.

The Shelter is located at 402 Bryant St, Ojai, CA 93023. For 75 years, the people of Ventura County have supported this vital organization. The Humane Society receives no governmental funds and relies 100% on donations from the public to continue its services. The Society's website is www.humanesocietyvc.org or call 805-646-6505 for details and directions.
