City application for new development
The Camarillo City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved an application from Sandstone Properties to amend the city's general plan for a project proposed near the Camarillo rail station.
The general plan's previous guidelines called for only industrial uses on the 70 acres, where several warehouses are located.
The amendment will create a mixed-use designation, clearing the way for environmental impact studies as well as preparation for a specific plan that could allow retail, residential and business facilities.
The property is on the north side of Mission Oaks Boulevard, east of Lewis Road and west of Flynn Road.
The council heard previously from Sandstone about its desire to create a transit-oriented development on the land, which borders the railroad tracks that run parallel to Lewis Road.
Public hearings on the proposal will begin after environmental impact studies and specific plans are given to the council, officials said.
