Supervisors oppose LNG transfer site near Mugu
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday joined a handful of city councils that have condemned a proposed liquefied natural gas transfer site that could interfere with a U.S. Navy testing range off Point Mugu.
The board voted 5-0 to oppose Woodside Energy's plan to use the Point Mugu area for ship-to-ship transfers of LNG. The company's plans call for three possible transfer sites, and the Navy says that the company's preferred site would interfere with testing operations.
"We're not making a recommendation for or against LNG," Supervisor Peter Foy said. "Our goal is just to leave this test range open and not have any obstructions."
The cities of Camarillo, Oxnard and Ventura have also declared their opposition to the location.
County Counsel Noel Klebaum advised the board not to take a stance on the broader Woodside proposal, because it may later come before the board for approvals or permits.
