Nordstrom, an upscale fashion store ranked among the best places to work last year by Fortune magazine, is set to open at The Oaks on Sept. 5.

Previously alluded to as sometime in the fall, the Seattle-based retailer's entry into the Thousand Oaks market was provided in an update on mall renovations and the addition of 27 stores.

A few new stores are expected to open in May, including Teavana, a high-quality tea purveyor; Fruits & Passion, a Canadian personal care boutique; and Kate Spade, a handbag and accessories store.

Fashion retailer Marciano will open in September, as well as the 138,000-square-foot Nordstrom.

Other new stores include Abercrombie Kids, Bare Escentuals, Beauty Essentials, Fast Fix Jewelry Repair, Baby Gap and Gap Maternity, Gap Kids, Guess, Hollister, Nailspot, Planet Funk and Solstice Sunglass Boutique.

The parking deck is expected to open in August, and a charity gala event tied to the renovation is scheduled for Sept. 3.

In addition, 40 retailers have completed or are doing renovations in connection with the construction that began in January 2006. The renovation is scheduled to be completed by fall.

This is the first significant reinvestment in the center's 30-year history, and a new interior design is in the works, featuring wrought-iron chandeliers, wood accents, columns and stone flooring.

"What is happening at The Oaks is remarkable — this property will be one of the most stunning settings for shopping, dining and entertaining in Southern California," said Randy Brant, Macerich's executive vice president of real estate. Macerich Oaks LLC owns the 1.3 million-square-foot mall.
