Ventura Fire Dept may issue refunds for uncompleted inspections
The Ventura Fire Department is considering refunds to owners of apartment complexes and motels charged for state-mandated smoke alarm inspections that were never completed.
Some 415 property owners were sent bills in 2007, ranging from $220 to $440 depending on the number of units, to pay for inspections. Many were not conducted within a year's time, however, due to scheduling conflicts, a lack of manpower and other responsibilities, Glen Albright, chief fire inspector, acknowledged in an interview with the Star.
How many inspections were missed, he could not say. State law requires smoke detectors be hard wired with a back-up battery or run using a 10-year, tamper proof lithium battery, he said.
"There are some units that were not inspected during the 12-month billing period," he said, "and at this time we are evaluating providing partial to complete refunds."
A decision on the refund should be made within the next week to 10 days, he said.

refund for uncompleted inspections, they need to refund everyone. We have already paid for this service threw our taxes. Maybe they should let go the 12 people the city hired on for the arts department. They are out of control.

Maybe the city can recoup the cost of the diesel used for engine two's daily sightseeing tour of pierpont and the harbor by imposing a "patrol" fee on beach residents.

we're are we, in chicago? has the mob moved in, pay-up on your inspection fee or your 911 phone fee or else. when does lefty and the brass knuckles come out. I always felt these services were payed for with our property taxes and sale tax. if we need to save our city revenues maybe we should stop putting up this so called art defacing our view at the end of california. we should spend our money were it's needed. I hope we aren't paying that trash some left at the beach entrance.

This is how our government works. They continue to spend our tax dollars on bs like the art dept and other frivolous projects. They then always say they are short on money for vital services like fire dept, police, schools. They figure we are so stupid and will not protest such needed services. We need to call and send emails and complain. This is not right and we should not stand for it.
