Acclaimed soprano, Ventura native to receive key to the City from Mayor Weir

Nicole Cabell will return to her alma mater, Ventura High School for a student presentation, and to perform in concert on May 10.

Singer of the World, Ventura Native Soprano Nicole Cabell to receive key to the City and speak with students at Ventura High School on May 7.

Crowned BBC Cardiff Singer of the World in 2005, Nicole Cabell grew up in Ventura, graduated from Ventura High School in 1996, and is making a triumphant return home to perform with the 14th season of the Ventura Music Festival on May 10.

For the first time since becoming an international singing star, Cabell will visit her alma mater, Ventura High School for a special student presentation on May 7, beginning at 1:00 pm.Ventura City Mayor Christy Weir will present Cabell with the Key to the City of Ventura with noted city dignitaries also present. The public is invited to attend the event. Space is limited.

When: 1:00 pm, Wednesday May 7, 2008Where: Ventura High School Little Theatre, Ventura CA

Why: Provide an opportunity for students in Ventura County to get up close and personal with Cabell.

What: Ventura City Mayor Christy Weir will present Cabell with the Key to the City of Ventura. The public is invited to attend, however space is limited.

Cabell will share her personal story, including her education at Ventura High School, what inspired her to pursue a singing career, and how she got to where she is today. There will be a question and answer period.

Cabell will sing two songs: "Summertime" (Gershwin) and more formal piece "O Mio Babbino Caro," a popular piece recorded by legendary divas from Maria Callas to Kathleen Battle.
