Police arrest 5 in fight at Santa Paula home

Police arrested five people late Sunday in connection with a fight at a Santa Paula residence that left three of them injured, authorities said.

Santa Paula police responding about 10:35 p.m. to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 900 block of East Santa Paula Street found several men fighting, authorities said.

When officers tried to stop the fight, several people forced the door closed and locked the police outside.

After forcing their way in, officers detained 12 people, three of whom were injured. Police said they later arrested the three injured men and two teenagers.

Luis Rodriguez, 27, of Santa Paula, who was taken to Santa Paula Hospital, was suspected of stabbing two men during the brawl, police said.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer with force or violence.

The two Santa Paula men who were stabbed — Nahum Urbina, 18, and Marco Espinosa, 20 — declined treatment from paramedics, police said. Officers took both to Santa Paula Hospital for medical evaluations and arrested them on suspicion of resisting an officer with force or violence, police said.

The conditions of the injured three men were not available Monday, but all were eventually booked into Ventura County Jail, authorities said.

A 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl were also arrested on suspicion of resisting, obstructing or delaying a police officer and violating probation terms, police said.

Their names were not released because they are juveniles.

Per the article, it appeared the stab wounds were not life threatning, but could have been.

Whatever happened to fists at a fist fight? Oh yah that went out in the early to mid 70's. Last group fight I was in use to be after football games between Nordhoff and Santa Paula High. Good old fashion fists to fists. No one got stabbed or shot, maybe a few broken bones, but it was safe to fight once upon a time.
