Querrey upsets 10th seed Moya
Sam Querrey of Thousand Oaks upset 10th-seeded Carlos Moya 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in the first round of the Monte Carlo (Monaco) Masters on Monday.
Moya won both the Monte Carlo and French Open titles in 1998.
The 20-year-old Querrey, who won his first career title at Las Vegas on hard courts last month, will play either Andreas Seppi or Agustin Calleri in the second round.
Former two-time champion Juan Carlos Ferrero beat Michael Llodra of France 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-1.
Llodra missed a chance to level at 2-2 in the third set, wasting two break points with unforced errors.
PRO FOOTBALL
NFL reinstates Bengals' Thurman
Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman has been reinstated by the NFL after being suspended for the last two seasons.
The Bengals said they were informed by commissioner Roger Goodell that Thurman is eligible to play. He had been suspended because of violations of the NFL substance abuse policy.
He was cleared in January by the NFL to resume working out with the Bengals pending word on his status.

Arkansas track coach to retire after 36 years
Arkansas track and field coach John McDonnell, who has led the Razorbacks to 42 national titles and 83 conference crowns, will retire at the end of the outdoor season, the school announced.
The 69-year-old McDonnell has won more national championships than any other collegiate coach in any sport.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Stanford interviews top assistant Oliver
Top Stanford assistant Doug Oliver became the first candidate to interview for the Cardinal's head coaching vacancy.
Oliver just completed his second season as the lead assistant at Stanford, where he also worked in the same capacity from 1986 to 1998. Athletic director Bob Bowlsby is looking to fill a job that opened when fourth-year coach Trent Johnson left for LSU on April 10.
Ohio State's Koufos to enter NBA draft: Ohio State freshman center Kosta Koufos will declare for the NBA draft but will not immediately sign with an agent, the school said, leaving open the possibility of returning to the Buckeyes next season.
Koufos averaged 14.4 points and 6.7 rebounds for the Buckeyes last season and had 22 points and nine rebounds in Ohio State's win over Massachusetts in the NIT championship game.
Drake hires Arizona State assistant Phelps: Drake has hired Arizona State assistant Mark Phelps as its new men's basketball coach.
Phelps will replace Associated Press Coach of the Year Keno Davis. Davis left the Bulldogs last week to take the job at Providence.
Green becomes coach at Jacksonville State: James Green was hired as the men's basketball coach at Jacksonville State, leaving Mississippi Valley State after leading the Delta Devils to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1996.
Green replaces Mike LaPlante, fired after going 95-137 in eight seasons at Jacksonville State.

Dominguez wins Tour de Georgia first stage
Ivan Dominguez of Cuba won the first stage of the Tour de Georgia at Savannah, Ga., sprinting across the finish line 0.1 seconds ahead of a crowded peloton.
