Forbidden Kingdom' on top for weekend

"The Forbidden Kingdom," from Lionsgate and the Weinstein Co., traveled to the top of the domestic box office over the weekend, bowing with $21.4 million.

Universal's R-rated comedy "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" grabbed the silver medal with $17.7 million in opening grosses.

Sony Screen Gems' horror film "Prom Night" finished third with $8.7 million. Sony's Al Pacino thriller "88 Minutes" debuted in fourth at $7 million. "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed," a Ben Stein-narrated documentary about critics of the intelligent design theory of creation, was No. 10 at $2.97 million.

The cop drama "Street Kings" from Fox Searchlight and Regency fell from its opening grosses to ring up $4.2 million in seventh.

The weekend's collective grosses marked a 4 percent increase over the same time a year ago, according to Nielsen EDI data. That's only the second year-over-year weekend uptick in the past 10 sessions.

"Marshall," whose producers included comedy dynamo Judd Apatow, was written by topliner Jason Segel and co-stars Kristen Bell ("Veronica Mars"). Nick Stoller, previously a screenwriter on films including "Fun With Dick and Jane," earned his first directing credit.

Here are the top 10 movies for April 18-20, listed by title and weekend gross, according to final figures from Nielsen EDI.

1. "Forbidden Kingdom," $21.4 million.

2. "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," $17.7 million.

3. "Prom Night," $8.7 million.

4. "88 Minutes," $7 million.

5. "Nim's Island," $5.7 million.

6. "21," $5.5 million..

7. "Street Kings," $4.2 million.

8. "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears A Who," $3.5 million.

9. "Leatherheads," $3.04 million.

10. "Expelled: No Intelligence," $2.97 million.
