Church vandalism a suspected hate crime
Ventura County Sheriff's deputies are investigating the recent vandalism of a Moorpark church as a hate crime, authorities said Monday.
Someone spray-painted pentagrams, upside-down crosses and "hail Satan" on the outside wall of the Moorpark Presbyterian Church, 13950 Peach Hill Road, sometime between 5 p.m. Friday and 6:30 a.m. Saturday, said Sgt. William Hammer of the Moorpark Sheriff's Station.
Similar graffiti appeared the same night on a wall separating a park in the Peach Hill area from nearby residences, Hammer said.
No one had been arrested for the crimes as of Monday morning.
Hammer said the incidents do not appear to be part of a trend. "It appears to be kids," he said.
Anyone with information about the vandalism can call Moorpark police at 532-2716.
