FOUR BELL CHOIRS PRESENT CONCERT AT CAMARILLO UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
With the theme, Celebrate the Ringing, the four bell choirs of the Camarillo United Methodist Church will present their annual concert Sunday, May 20, at 5 p.m. in the church.
The concert is open to the public free of charge. A freewill offering will be taken.
Highlights of the concert will include traditional spirituals, Wade in the Water and This Little Light of Mine, plus contemporary favorites, The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Soon and Very Soon, both with percussion accompaniment.
The concert will also showcase a beautiful version of Morning Has Broken and Classical Gas. The latter is an energetic piece of the 1960s pop classic, arranged for hand bells and classical guitar by Henry Wadsworth, Adult Bell Choir member.
In addition, the church Chancel Choir will sing two favorite anthems.
This years concert is a mix of everything from traditional church favorites to secular, contemporary pieces, several with pop rock influence, Kristi VanKeersbilck, bell choirs director, noted. There will be something for everyone.
The four bell choirs will demonstrate different levels of musical development. The Cherub Chimes, 5 to 7 year olds, will sing the melody of a song while ringing the harmony part, while the Chapel Bells (elementary age) are learning to read music. The Youth Bells are middle school students with more advanced musical skills.
The Adult Bells include high school and adult ringers who are learning new techniques and mastering different styles of music from classical and sacred to contemporary Christian and folk.
The Camarillo United Methodist Church is located at 291 Anacapa Dr., north of Las Posas road. For more information, call the Kristi at the Church Office at 805-482-4312 or go on the web site, www.cam-umc.org.
