3 arrested in apparent gang attack on SUV

More from StateThree people were arrested after an apparent gang attack in a San Diego County beach town where a group of assailants surrounded three people in a sport utility vehicle, smashed its windows and fired a rifle in the air, authorities said.
The three were found early Saturday and booked on suspicion of felony vandalism and exhibiting a firearm in a threatening way, San Diego County Sheriff's Sgt. William Dreyer said.
Dreyer said the victims — two women and a man — were driving on a Solana Beach street late Friday when two cars pulled up and blocked them. Solana Beach is about 15 miles north of San Diego.
Six to eight people armed with baseball bats got out of the cars and smashed the side and back windows of the SUV while they shouted the name of a gang, officials said.
The victims jumped out of their vehicle and one of the assailants fired a rifle into the air several times.
The victims, who were not injured, told sheriff's deputies that the gunman said he would have killed them if there had not been women among them.
About two hours later, a deputy spotted a car matching the description of one of the assailants' vehicles in nearby Encinitas, Dreyer said. Several people got out and ran, but deputies were able to catch three, he said.
A sheriff's dog captured one 16-year-old, a documented gang member who needed stitches for dog bite wounds before being booked into a juvenile facility, authorities said. The other two, ages 23 and 33, were jailed.
