Rise, poets, rise!
Many letters that are sent to The Star are addressed to the editor. However, since this is National Poetry Month, I am addressing this letter to the poets of our community (and you would probably be surprised at how many there are).
Wherever they are — and whoever they may be — published or unpublished, writing privately as a hobby or for the love of the art or writing to reach the public, this is for you:
Your day
These are the days that forge poets.
The burning, riotous days of heat,
Anvils of anger stamping their shape on our lives.
Rise, poets, rise!
From your comfortable chairs, your solitude,
Your solid oak desks, your marble columns of thought.
These are the days for poets to speak.
Shout your soliloquies for all to hear,
Your pent-up poems, your words written from fire.
Modulate, enunciate, articulate your prose
Arming yourself with the vocal strength we have lost
Slumbering in quiet frustration.
Rise, poets, rise!
Today is your day to breathe life back into us.
