County athletes earn high marks at Mt. SAC

Ventura turns in several noble performances

Area athletes feasted with lifetime bests and county-leading performances at the Mount San Antonio College Relays Saturday in Walnut.

Camarillo High's Greg Kelly placed second in the invitational boys' 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 1 minute, 54.96 seconds and moved to second on Ventura County's season rankings.

Valexia Droughn of Rio Mesa matched her county-leading time in the invitational girls' 100 as she placed second in 11.95.

Ranked as one of the top hurdlers in the state, Emani Truluck of Malibu was runner-up in the girls' 100 hurdles in 14.27. She placed ninth in the invitational 300 hurdles in 45.41.

Rio Mesa and St. Bonaventure moved up the state leaderboard in the boys' 4x200 relay.

Placing fifth in the invitational 4x200 relay, Rio Mesa posted a time of 1:28.22.

St. Bonaventure wasn't too far behind, winning the high school division 4x200 in 1:28.89.

Maxwell Dyce of Moorpark won the boys' seeded long jump with a county-leading mark of 22 feet, 11 inches and was second in the seeded 100 (10.79) behind Rio Mesa's Sean Alfino (10.72).

Alfino helped Rio Mesa win the seeded 4x100 relay in 42.38.

Royal's Philip Burks had lifetime bests in winning the triple jump (47-3) and placing second in the seeded long jump (22-5).

Ventura had several notable performances.

Ryan Rosales had a lifetime best in winning the open discus with a county-leading throw of 155-11. The Cougars, which finished tied for first in distance-relay points, were fifth in the invitational boys' distance medley in 10:32.13. Ventura was fourth in the seeded 1,600 sprint medley (3:44.23) and first in the invitational 4x800 relay (8:00.73). Kristen Wilson (35-0) and Alexandra Morgan (33-6) were second and fifth in the girls' seeded shot put.

Camarillo was ninth in the invitational boys' distance medley in 10:39.84.

Oaks Christian's Chris Owusu, ranked as one of the top sprinters in the state, was fourth in the invitational boys' 100 in 10.73. Oaks Christian was third in the invitational girls' 1,600 sprint medley (4:15.43). Lauren Radke was sixth in the invitational girls' pole vault at 10-8.

Garrett DeMerjian of Thousand Oaks was sixth in the boys' 110 hurdles in 15.14.

Camarillo's Cassie Brooker was seventh in the invitational 800 with a county season-best time of 2:15.20. She is the school record holder in the event.

Erin Baird of Agoura was eighth in the invitational girls' 1,600 in 5:11.17.

Brittany Harper of Calabasas placed second in the invitational girls' 400 in 56.74.

In a close invitational boys' 1,600, Calabasas' Clayton Graham won the invitational 1,600 in 4:19.06.

County leader Jordan Tyler of Moorpark tied for sixth in the invitational boys' pole vault. Tyler cleared 13-8.

St. Bonaventure's Jenessa Rose was fourth in the seeded girls' 800 (2:20.25) and fifth in the seed 1,600 (5:18.15).

In a special event, Jerell Thomas of Rio Mesa won the fastest 40-meter dash in 4.72 seconds.

On Friday, Courtney Lightfoot of Oak Park set a school record in placing second in the invitational girls' 3,200 in 10:52.40.
