Bettisworth earns award

Todd Bettisworth, an Oak Park High graduate, was one of 12 student-athletes recognized by the UC San Diego athletics department as a recipient of the 2008 National Student-Athlete Day Award. Bettisworth received the award based on his athletic and academic accomplishments as well as involvement with community service events and other extra curricular activities.

An economics major, Bettisworth is a four-year letter winner on the track and field team. His 400-meter time of 49.24 seconds is the seventh fastest in school history. He is also part of the school record-holding 1,600 relay team. In 2006, Bettisworth was selected to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team. With his 3.950 GPA, Bettisworth is a 10-time recipient of Provost Honors. He was also recognized for his community service involvement and serving as a tutor at the UCSD Warren Writing Center.
