Hueneme seeks football coach
For the fourth time in this decade, Hueneme High has launched a search for a new head varsity football coach.
Steve Ruedaflores submitted his resignation after one season, confirmed Hueneme athletic director Juan Flores.
Hueneme finished 4-6 during the 2007 season and was fifth in the Pacific View League. The Vikings have made only one playoff appearance in the last seven years.
Reudaflores' decision "was unfortunate and unexpected," said Flores.
"We want to thank Steve for his tremendous effort. Under his leadership, the program took a step in a positive direction. He leaves his successor with a solid foundation to build on."
Ruedaflores was the third football coach that Hueneme hired in the last seven years. Marcus Turner and Ryan Huisenga followed longtime Hueneme coach Larry Miller as Hueneme coaches.
"I am deeply troubled and saddened by the fact that we have been unable to maintain a consistency in our football coaching staff," said Flores. "We want nothing more for our kids than to experience the satisfaction that comes with winning championships."
Applications are now being accepted. Interested persons can contact Flores at 385-2669. Hueneme would like to have its new coach in place in time for spring football, which begins May 12.

Murphy resigns at Moorpark
Dave Murphy has resigned as the girls' basketball coach at Moorpark High.
Moorpark finished 16-10 during the 2007-08 school year and lost to Long Beach Poly in the playoffs.
In a career mostly spent at Simi Valley, Murphy's teams won 436 games.
"The main reason I resigned was I was not an on-campus coach," said Murphy. "In my previous 25 years as a head coach, I had been on campus. I found I very much missed the relationships formed on campus with the players as both a teacher and coach.
"I want to thank (athletic director) Rob Dearborn and the entire Moorpark staff for being so supportive of the girls' program."
