VARSITY WON IN 3 (Game Scores 25/11, 25/20, 25/23)
Newbury Park High School played Volleyball at Moorpark High for their second time meeting this year. The Newbury Park Panthers beat Moorpark in three games. With Coach Jorge trapped at work, Coach Glenn took the helm of the varsity squad against a young Moorpark squad. The Panther squad was a bit taller then their adversaries and that made a difference at the net. Mickey Kelleher finished with a season high 5 blocks with Travis Zeller right behind him with 4 blocks. Brady Johnson sprained his ankle during practice, which hindered his jumping for the night. Even though he only saw action during the first two games, he still finished with 4 kills for the night. Coach Glenn decided to keep the team fresh by challenging them with a different starting rotation for the second game. The boys adapted well. Travis stepped up by hitting 3 serves in a row to start game 2. Stephen Santos showed that he can play defense by making 3 digs. Zeller started out slow in game one but got fired up during the second and third games by pounding the ball into the wood for 8 kills. Kelleher had a breakout game with 9 kills and finally got a chance to hit the 3 ball. Colby Cameron seemed to have fun at the net by making 6 kills from the setter position while making 22 assists. Micah Smith started the third game and had a strong night from the serving line. Smith also made 10 passes and 1 dig from the back court. Jonathon Ramirez worked hard on defense making great passes and a suspicious pancake. At least we finally had a call go our way. Trevor Willenberg, as usual, led the team in kills with 11. His jump serve was on tonight as he served up 2 aces. His excitement was almost contagious as he tried to coax his team into playing every ball, no matter how far out of the court it was. All in all, Coach Glenn was happy with the play of the boys and happy to get out of Moorpark in 3 games.
JUNIOR VARSITY (JV) WON IN 2 (Game Scores: 25/14, 25/16)
The NPHS JV Team beat Moorpark in 2. With Royce Wells out injured for the night, Austin Kebley had no problem stepped into the setters position. He did a great job finishing the night with 14 assists and 2 kills. Nick Warnier seemed relaxed and let the rest of the team show their stuff tonight. Michael Burns had a great night with 5 kills an ace, and 2 blocks. Harrison Ang and Brandon Rista both made 3 kills. Jacob Haws did a great job on defense and finished with 3 digs. Jim Kataily shut down the Musketeers in the second game with 7 serves in a row, including an ace.
