SOFTBALL

SIMI VALLEY WINS PAIR

JV

Highlights: Simi Valley — The Pioneers rolled past Westlake, 12-2, and Royal, 10-0. In the Westlake game, Maddison Hawk had three hits and two RBIs. Chelsea Lovelace and Shanene Trunnel each had RBI singles. Chelsea Damiani had a two-run double. Christina Slenker had an RBI double. Sophia Perez had an RBI hit and drove in two more runs on a fielder's choice. Perez had a two-run triple, an RBI single and registered 11 strikeouts as the winning pitcher against Royal. Amanda Chatman had a two-run triple. Spector added an RBI triple. Trunnel had an RBI double. Hillary Burlew singled in a run. Lovelace had two hits.

THOUSAND OAKS GOES 3-1

Highlights: Thousand Oaks — The Lancers defeated Moorpark 3-0 and Newbury Park in Marmonte League play. In the Woodbridge Tournament, Thousand Oaks defeated Lakeside 7-4 but lost to Villa Park 11-4. Marlee McGehee and Kaelee Nelson each had two hits. Ashley Devolites and McGehee drove in runs. Sam Baumann was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts. Karina Ferguson had a two-run double in the seventh for the winning runs against Newbury Park. Bauman had three hits and was the winning pitcher. Thousand Oaks pounded out 17 hits against Lakeside. Baumann had four, Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick three, Devolites three and Amy Chjavez two.

Record: Thousand Oaks 10-7, 6-1 Marmonte League.

ROYAL 8, NEWBURY PARK 6

Highlights: Royal — Kayla Diaz led the offense with a triple, single, three RBIs and a run scored. Dani Newton and Lauren Carlson each scored three times and had a single. Brooke Swanson had a single and two RBIs. Lauren Wilkens and Jessica Owens added RBI singles. Owens pitched a complete game to earn the win.

BUENA GOES 2-1

Highlights: Buena — Dos Pueblos edged Buena 6-5 in a Channel League game. Buena defeated Rio Mesa, 4-2, in non-league game. The Bulldogs defeated Dos Pueblos 11-6. Elise Munoz had a single and a double. Jessica Jacobs and Danielle Saleh combined for 11 strikeouts. Demy Kim, Jacobs, Saleh and Kacie Sowell had hits. Saleh registered four strikeouts against Rio Mesa. Jacobs pitched in relief, posting three strikeouts. Courtnee Cobos had three hits. Kim, Munoz, Sabrina Cerda, Jacobs, Saleh and Alexsus Ferguson had hits. Buena avenged its only league loss against Dos Pueblos. Jacobs and Saleh combined for five strikeouts. Sowell had a triple, three singles and four RBIs. Rudi Lopez had an RBI single. Kim added two hits and one RBI. Munoz had two hits. Cobos had three hits and one RBI. Cerda had two hits and one RBI. Saleh had an RBI. Jacobs had an RBI single.

Record: Buena 8-3, 5-1 Channel League.

OAK PARK 13, SANTA CLARA 0

Highlights: Oak Park — Kelsey Jensen pitched a no-hitter. The Eagles had back-to-back homers by Jena Blumenfeld and Rebecca Varley. Simmons, Varley, Blumenfeld, Jensen and Ciara Zeolla all had two RBIs. Marleigh Singleman and Rachel Futterman drove in runs. Tally Zema played well behind the plate for both games. The Eagles have won six straight games and outscored the opposition, 68-0. Oak Park will play in the Royal JV Tournament on Saturday against Simi Valley.

Record: Oak Park 12-1.

ST. BONAVENTURE 7-5, PARACLETE 7-7;

ST. BONAVENTURE 1, SANTA CLARA 0

Highlights: St. Bonaventure — Kayeley Lyons hit a grand slam and a double to account for four RBIs in the first-game tie. Corina Avelino registered eight strikeouts. In the 7-5 nightcap loss, Avelino, Lyons and Breanna Garcia singled in runs. Christina Garvin and Avelino combined for eight strikeouts. The Seraphs edged Santa Clara, 1-0, in a Tri-Valley League game. Avelino recorded 17 strikeouts, including 15 in a row. Avelino had a double. Garcia had the winning hit.

Record: St. Bonaventure 5-5-1, 2-1 Tri-Valley League.

BASEBALL

OAKS CHRISTIAN 6-16, OAK PARK 5-4

Highlights: Oaks Christian — Tommy Knapp had a hit and scored twice in the 6-5 win. Mike Gose added a hit and scored a run. Trevor Gretzky had a hit, RBI and a walk. Josh Davis was the winning pitcher with one strikeout. Christian Louey allowed five earned runs with four strikeouts in pitching into the fifth inning. In the second game, Derek Stoutland was the winning pitcher with a five-hitter with three strikeouts and three earned runs in four innings. Blake McFadden had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Gretzky added two hits, including a homer and four RBIs. Sam Wales had three hits, four RBIs and scored twice. Devin Fiscalini had a hit and scored a run. Oak Park — Shawn Domke had three hits, including a homer and scored twice in the first game. Mike Richmond walked twice. Mitchell Mayo had a double. Nick Morelli had two hits and a stolen base in the second game. Jonathan Bilchik had a hit, a walk and scored a run. Adam Sherwood had two hits, two RBIs and scored a run.

VENTURA 1, SANTA MONICA 0

Highlights: Ventura — Brian Sullivan pitched a two-hitter with two strikeouts and one walk. Myles Parrino and Ben Mann each had hits. Catcher Glenn Wasden threw out three runners attempting to steal second base. Marshall Comden had a single, driving in pinch runner Chris Harvey in the bottom of the seventh inning. Harvey was running for Blake Tucker.

BUENA 13-6, RIO MESA 5-8

Highlights: Buena — Robert Albertson pitched five innings, allowing only three runs in the 13-5 opening win. Steven Henry scored three runs and Scott Billen had three hits. Matt Burke, Tyler Hammerand, R.J. Dietz and Eric Flores each had two hits. Robert Dietz had two hits, including a two-run double. Steven Parrack also had two hits and threw out three runners from the catcher position. Ben Vega also had two hits, including a triple.

MOORPARK 4, WESTLAKE 2

JV

Highlights: Moorpark — Denver Leamy pitched three shutout innings, giving up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in six innings. Relief pitcher Evan Traffendted earned the save. Jeff Barker's diving catch (center field) as well as solid defensive plays by Denver Dubreuil (third base), Mark Palacious (first base) and Stephen Motush (shortstop) helped hold the Westlake hitters to only two runs. Brandon Gillette and Stephen Picchini each had two hits. Palacious hit a double and scored twice. Leamy had a sacrifice fly for the go-ahead run.

Record: Moorpark 9-7, 3-4 Marmonte League.

ROYAL SPLITS PAIR

Highlights: Royal — Simi Valley defeated the Highlanders 8-4. Royal bounced back for a 6-5 win over Newbury Park. Chad Avena had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run in the Simi Valley game. Billy Conard had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run. Patrick McCoy added a hit and two walks. Vito Messina had an RBI single. Nate Mullen had a hit. Nick Cortrite had a hit and scored a run. Cortrite and Messina were the pitchers, combining on an eight-hitter. Cortrite was the losing pitcher, allowing six runs. Trevor Rapp had three hits, two RBIs and scored a run. Conard had a single, scored a run, walked twice and was hit by a pitch. Cortrite had a single, two RBIs and scored twice. Avena had a hit and scored a run. Patrick McCoy had a sacrifice fly, RBI and a walk. Brian Wade was hit by a pitch, walked, scored a run and drove in a run. Avena was the winning pitcher with a four-hitter over four innings. Corey Lavallee allowed four runs in relief with a four-hitter, four strikeouts and two walks. Rapp earned a save, inducing a one-pitch fly ball to center field for the final out.

SANTA BARBARA 3-6, VENTURA 2-5

Freshmen

Highlights: Ventura — Braeden Ayub went 2 for 3 with an RBI in the 3-2 loss to Santa Barbara. Jake Likness had a double and two RBIs. Casey Gladden had a double and scored a run. Nick Griffith had a hit and scored a run. Jacob Murray pitched four innings with no decision. Michael Arias took the loss. Griffith went 3 for 4 with a double and run scored in the 6-5 loss. Gladden had a hit, an RBI and scored. Arias, Murray and Ayub each had a hit and run scored. Ricky Merrill and Edgar Flores each had a hit and RBI. Griffith pitched six innings with five strikeouts for a no-decision. Santa Barbara — Pepe Gill pitched a complete game and earned the win in the opener. Danny Zandona was one of three pitchers in the second game and was the winning pitcher.

ROYAL SWEEPS GAMES

Freshmen

Highlights: Royal — Ryan Knight had an RBI single in the 1-0 win over Simi Valley. Cole Acheronti had three hits, including a double, an RBI and scored four times in the 16-4 win over Newbury Park. Ryan Blakely had a single and scored twice. Tyler Bosson had three hits, including a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Knight added two hits and scored a run. Jacob Leyba had an RBI and a run scored. Nick Murphy had a single, two RBIs and two runs scored. Keegan Sankey had three hits, four RBIs and scored a run. Lebya scattered eight hits over six innings. He registered six strikeouts amnd allowed two earned runs. In the Simi Valley game, Acheronti had a double. Blakely and Tinkham had singles.

OAKS CHRISTIAN 8, NORDHOFF 3

Freshmen

Highlights: Oaks Christian — The Lions rallied from a 3- 1 deficit in the late innings for the victory. Luke Zirretta's RBI single cut the Rangers lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Tim Tyrrell singled in the tying run and eventually scored on an overthrow to give the Lions the lead. Blake McFadden led off the seventh with a triple and scored an insurance run on Trevor Gretzky's RBI single. Oaks Christian scored three more runs in the final inning for the winning margin. McFadden pitched four scoreless innings, allowing one hit with seven strikeouts in gaining the win. The offense was led by Tyrrell (three hits, two runs and three RBIs), Blair Holliday (two RBIs) and Josh Davis (two hits, two runs, and one RBI).

BOYS' VOLLEYBALL

NEWBURY PARK 2, THOUSAND OAKS 0

Scores 26-24, 26-24

Highlights: Newbury Park — Nick Wargnier had eight kills and eight digs. Steve Tobias had 11 digs. Michael Burns had four kills. Royce Wells recorded 16 assists.

Record: Newbury Park 9-9, 5-2 Marnonte League.

GIRLS' SWIMMING

SANTA CLARA 111, SANTA PAULA 72

Highlights: Santa Clara — Tracy Waters captured the 200 freestyle. Brianna Gomino was first in the 100 IM and 50 butterfly. Victoria San Juan-Vistro won the 50 backstroke, followed by Kelli Russell and Celeste Alcantar. Janel Raab finished second in the 50 breast stroke. Carmen Centeno was thrd in the 200 freestyle and 50 butterfly. Melanie Garcia was third in the 50 freestyle. Nikki Cashpal was third in the 100 IM.

CLUB SWIMMING

RIO MESA ATHLETES QUALIFY

At CSA April Long-Course Opener

Highlights: Rio Mesa Swim Club — Ian Borchard, 12, qualified in the 50 breast stroke for the summer long-course Junior Olympics. Grace O'Toole, 10, qualified in three events: the 50 butterfly, 50 freestyle and 50 breast stroke. Nick Sanchez, 17, qualified in the 50 freestyle. Austin Takeda, 12, qualified in six events: the 50 freestyle, the 50 butterfly, the 50 and 100 backstroke, the 200 individual medley and the 400 freestyle. Six swimmers also qualified for the Summer Age Group Long-Course Championships. They are Ian Borchard, 12, in the 400 freestyle; J.P. Delossantos, 18, in the 50 and 200 freestyle; Thomas Heinzel, 9, in the 50 freestyle; Grace O'Toole, 10, in the 100 and 200 freestyle; and Maddie Sickle, 11, in the 400 freestyle. Melissa Yu, 11, qualified in five events: the 50 backstroke and the 50, 100, 200 and 400 freestyle. Information: Coach Bill Oliver at 642-6674. Buenaventura — Katie Nettesheim and Nick Vargas qualified for the Junior Olympic Championships in the 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle, respectively.
