Kang wins championship flight at Spring Open

Overcoming the cold and winds on the back nine, Oak Park High's Alex Kang fired rounds of 66-68 to win the championship flight of the Ventura County Junior Golf Association's Spring Open, held April 5-6 at Soule Park.

During his two rounds, Kang compiled 13 birdies and just five bogeys en route to his winning score of 8-under 134. Four stokes back were Jordan Cuthbert of Camarillo and Andrew Perez of Oxnard.

Cuthbert put some pressure on Kang in the final round by making five birdies and just one bogey, giving him the low round of the day (67). Perez also kept the pressure on Kang with two early birdies and consistent play until a late double bogey ended his chances. Chris Doyle of Thousand Oaks finished fourth at 140, while Tanner Diaz of Valencia was fifth (141).

In the girls' championship flight, Shannon Holden of Simi Valley carded two back-nine birdies to shoot a final-round 77 to win the title with a two-day total of 160. Remy Molyneux of Westlake Village made an eagle on the par-5 second hole, helping her to a second-place finish with a score of 167. Westlake High's Liz Cornelison finished third, thanks to a birdie on the difficult par-4 17th.

In the Boys' 12-14 flight, Jonathan Sanders of Chatsworth fired a final-round 73 that included birdies on the final two holes. His two-day total of 149 was seven stokes ahead of Brock Drogosch of Westlake Village.

Alex Angard of Encino finished third with a total of 162, while Dirk Guthrie of Ventura finished a shot back in fourth.

Who's your caddie? Buick is giving one lucky golfer an opportunity to have Tiger Woods serve as his or her caddie.

Buick's "Tee-Off with Tiger" on-line contest started Monday and continues through Sept. 28.

Contestants who register at http://www.teeoffwithtiger.com will have an opportunity to vie for the grand prize to partner with Woods, or to win a high-end collectible only Buick can provide: Woods' personal Buick vehicle — driven by the golf phenom himself — at several tournaments in which he competes during the promotion window. The entrant who best guesses the most strokes closest to Woods' actual score for that particular tournament will win Woods' Buick.

The top 10 finishers from each tournament will become finalists for the grand prize, an all-expense paid trip to Torrey Pines in La Jolla, site of the 2008 U.S. Open. Woods will serve as the winner's personal caddie for nine holes on Monday, Oct. 20, at Torrey Pines.

Participants must be U.S. residents, 18 years of age or older with a valid driver's license as of the date of entry. Entrants need only register once and can participate each time Woods competes in tournaments during the promotion window.
