"Kids in the Darkroom — Photography the Old-fashioned Way," a free demonstration for children with ArtWalk Featured Artist Stephen Schafer, will take place at 11 a.m., noon, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. April 27. The five free one-hour sessions will be at the Ventura Visitors Bureau, 101 S. California St.
Many of the world's best photographers began their careers after seeing their first print appear "like magic" in the developing tray. That's what will happen when Schafer presents this kid-focused, fast-paced, 45-minute tour of the camera, the photo-shoot and the darkroom.
Starting with a photo taken at the beginning of the hour with a large format camera, he will develop the film, and then it will be time to go into the darkroom to make a big print. Everyone can gather around the chemical trays, as the print appears.
The demonstration is for children 8 to 16. Space is limited. For reservations, call 648-2075.
