Council OKs land purchase for hotel
The Camarillo City Council moved a step closer toward developing a 500-room hotel and conference center near Camarillo Premium Outlets. Sitting as the Community Development Commission, the council Wednesday night unanimously approved the purchase of a 4-acre parcel from Chelsea Corp., owners and operators of the outlets mall. Adjacent land already has been set aside for the proposed hotel.
"The university (CSU Channel Islands) has been pushing for this," Councilman Kevin Kildee said. "They want a conference center and hotel where visiting professors and lecturers can stay when coming to the school."
The land purchase will allow for more parking, proper drainage and frontage space for the proposed Marriott hotel and conference center. The project is still in the early stages of planning.
The land, currently a vacant lot, is at Highway 101 and Las Posas Road, northwest of the outlet mall.
