Fillmore Fire Chief placed on administrative leave

Fillmore Fire Chief Pete Egedi has been placed on paid administrative leave, city officials said Wednesday.

Egedi was placed on leave Monday, according to a city news release.

Steve McClary, the city's administrative services manager, would not say why Egedi, 38, was placed on leave.

Ventura County Undersheriff Craig Husband said his department is investigating allegations involving Egedi. Husband would not provide details.

Egedi is an "at-will" city employee and does not have a contract, officials said. He receives an annual base salary of $79,000.

Egedi became the city's fire chief on July 13, 2005, McClary said. Before that, he was a volunteer captain with the 72-member department.

McClary said several department employees probably will serve as chief on a rotating basis while Egedi is on leave.
