Horse killed; 4 people hurt in accident
Four people were injured and a horse was killed late Monday night when a car hit the animal near Piru, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 11 p.m. Monday on Highway 126 near Powell Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Firefighters treated four people who were in the car at the scene, none of whom was seriously injured, said Bill Nash, a spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department. All four people were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia.
The horse was dead when emergency responders arrived at the scene.
While crashes with large animals are not frequent on Highway 126, the CHP has responded to accidents on the roadway involving horses, deer, cows, a bear and a mountain lion, said Officer Brandon Mumme of the Highway Patrol.
