Oak View Civic Council to Present Awards and Select Honorary Mayor

The Oak View Civic Council presents its annual Awards Ceremony and Mayoral Election on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the Oak View Community Center, 18 Valley Rd. The event will begin at 6:00 with a Spaghetti Dinner and will include musical entertainment and is open to all who wish to attend. Dinner is only $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under. Tickets should be purchased by April 16 and are available at the following Oak View businesses: Allstate Insurance, Rabobank, and the Shell station.

The Civic Council will present the following 2008 Honors based upon ballots that were received by April 9: Citizen of the Year; Business of the Year; Most Improved Business Appearance; Organization of the Year; Parent(s) of the Year; and Hall of Fame Award (community involvement 5 years or more).

All nominations must have included a written statement describing why that person, organization or business should be honored and nominees must reside in or be a business in Oak View or in the surrounding unincorporated areas.

The Honorary Mayor will also be selected on April 19. Two candidates met the April 9 deadline to submit an application in order to campaign for the election. Running for the 2008 Oak View Mayor are Al Borokowski of Oak View Shell Station and Nancy Graham of Simple Printing, the latter business located behind the post office. A dinner ticket counts as a ballot and additional ballots can be purchased by anyone attending the event for $1.00 to support their favorite candidate. This is one election where Mayoral candidates can buy their way into office!

Additional Oak View Civic Council events are posted on the website at www.oakviewca.org.
