Rash of 7 accidents reported on Hwy. 118
The California Highway Patrol reported seven separate accidents during rainy conditions on Highway 118 in Simi Valley on Wednesday night.
There were minor injuries in only one of the accidents, CHP officials said.
The accidents occurred from 8 to 9:30 p.m., in light rain, but the CHP could not confirm that rain contributed to the rash of the accidents.

"the rain" does not "contribute" to the "rash" of accidents. the inability of the average driver to use common sense in the rain (slow down, don't tailgate, plan ahead, etc) is what contributes to the rash of accidents.

Or maybe the fact that Simi is way too overcrowded, and they should have thought about expanding it way before they kept building house after house and cramming more people in.

"accidents" aren't cause from overcrowding in Simi.
smithjc is right, people can't drive in the rain with any sense of responsiblity.
Slow down people!
I learned to drive in Ohio with the snow and rain so I know to SLOW DOWN a bit, give yourself space and watch out for idiots who don't do the same.
I also put my car in neutral when coming to a stop to stop the forward momentum of my car. It keeps the car from sliding to much when it's slippery.
But mostly it's common sense. SLOW DOWN and get some space between yourself and the person in front of you.
Also a good set of tires will keep you from sliding if you do need to stop quick.
Sorry about repeating myself. It just seems needed to get the point across.

At the end of the day, it is the incredible disrespect that drivers have for each other and their ignorance of the danger of pushing thousands of pounds of metal down the highway at 75 mph. If someone cuts you off and you honk, they flip you off. If you are only going 75 in the fast lane, they tailgate you. Distracted by cell phones, radios, cigarettes and pets on their laps, drivers barely have time to watch the road and when they do, they are probably trying to cut you off. Driving brings out the worst in humanity, and on top of that, they don't know how to drive in the rain either.
