Marks - 50th Anniversary

Richard and Muriel Mark celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary March 9th, 2008. They were married at All Saints by the Sea Episcopal Church in Montecito, California.

Richard and Muriel (Lauritson was Muriels maiden name) met at East Beach in Santa Barbara where Richard was working as a Beach Lifegurard. They dated for several years while completing their educations. Richard graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with an Engineering Degree. He worked as a Civilian Engineer at the Point Mugu Naval Base for forty years specializing in Electro-Optics, Laser and other inferred systems. Muriel graduated from Knapp College of Nursing and worked at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara until taking a position as a Surgical Nurse at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital where she retired after 16 years.

They raised four children in Ventura; Eileen Condron, Gail Meinhold, Loren (deceased), and Loreen Washburn. They are blessed with nine grandchildren.

They celebrated their 50th Anniversary by having their vows renewed by Hollis Allen, the former Sr. Pastor of Community Presbyterian Church, on December 27th at the Catamaran Resort Hotel in San Diego. This was a special event in which they were surrounded by family and best friends Daryl and Annibelle Carlson and Tom and Mary Kays.

Richard and Muriel always made their children and grandchildren top priority, but have always dedicated themselves to keeping their marriage exciting. Muriel has spent many years as a volunteer at the Tri-Counties Easter Seal Society working with children with physical and developmental disabilities. They have been actively traveling the world, but find time to spend at their homes in Ventura, South Lake Tahoe, and Maui. There favorite time is spent watching their Grandchildren grow and attending their many sporting events.

They are loved and have been an inspiration to all those that have been associated with the Mark Family.
