Morning Report: Man arrested after stabbing in Ventura

Police and Fire: A Ventura man was arrested last night after he allegedly stabbed another man during an argument, police said.

Kenneth Wagonis, 47, was arrested about 7:30 p.m. on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly stabbed Zane Perry, 39, of Ventura, according to a prepared statement from the Ventura Police Department.

The stabbing occurred near the railroad tracks behind 3098 Channel Dr. in Ventura, where both men were camping illegally.

The men, who had been drinking, were arguing about money when Wagonis allegedly stabbed Perry on the side of his face with a knife, police said.

Perry was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center for treatment. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Wagonis was booked into Ventura County Jail, where he was being held this morning in lieu of $20,000 bail.

There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. The storm is expected to intensify overnight and reach its peak intensity early Saturday morning, according to the weather service.

High temperatures in the upper 60s to around 70 are expected.

The Highway 101 corridor from the Los Angeles county line to Camarillo was dry early this morning, but some precipitation was reported on the coast.

"There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon."

Where I'm at, it's been pouring since 6am.

I wonder if these people are illegal aliens from Canada?? Makes you wonder... If the last names from these people would have been Sanchez or Ortiz I would have seen 5 postings already calling for enforcement of immigration laws... People assume if you have a Spanish last name you just got here yesterday... Just a thought I wanted to throw out there. Happy Friday though!

They're problem is just that they're DRUNKS!!! What else would you expect? Now, one of them will get a warm bed with lousy food in jail. That's a step up.

The thing that is getting comments here on this story is that it is apparently 2 non-hispanic males (based on the names) involved. That's what makes this story note worthy. Because almost every story locally reporting a crime involves hispanic males (without even getting into the issue of immigration status). Not a racist rant, just the facts of it. If you dispute it, just check the stories. And that is what gets peoples anger and frustration up in their posts on here.

With Hispanics being the largest single (no longer ethnic minority) group in Ventura County, wouldn't it be logical to see Spanish surnames in "almost every story locally reporting a crime?" Note that more often than not, it's a case of Hispanic on Hispanic crime. The true question is: What is the "proportion" of crimes committed by ethnic group? For example, do whites or Asians have a larger number of crimes associated to those ethnic groups for their population numbers? Only by doing such a statistical analysis can it be determined whether a given race/ethnic group has a highter or lower crime rate.

Sorry NothingButTheTruth, but you need to check your facts before you try to convince people otherwise. As of 2005, the total percentage of Ventura County made up of "Hispanic or Latino" persons was 36%, or approximately one-third. Total population of the County made up of "Non-Hispanic White" persons was 54%. These facts come from the 2006 US Census Bureau Report. So exactly where do you see that Hispanics are "the largest single group in Ventura County"???

baitsoaker, they only count the legal ones in the census. these others either don't respond to the info requests or hide when they come out to do a head count.

baitsoaker, seems like you need to go back to the drawing board, from what smithjc stated. Let's see what you'll pull out of your *ss.

No drawing board needed. They are simple facts from the Census Bureau, not something "pulled from my *ss" as you so eloquently put it.

smithjc, you have a good point. Census information only reflects those who are willing to respond, and those with a social security number. There are thousands upon thousands of uncounted, illegal immigrants residing here. This is not news to anybody. So, since only 34% of the county is made up of Hispanic or Latinos and, as desdave put it, almost every local story on crime involves a Hispanic or Latino, wouldn't these numbers only support the argument that the vast majority of the crime problems in our County are a direct result of the presence of Illegal Immigrants? I'm all for skewing the numbers however you want it, but the fact remains that living in this country without having gone through the proper immigration process is ILLEGAL. So why exactly do people take pride in the fact that their ethnic majority is the direct result of breaking the law!!

Sorry, but I have to go with "NothingButTheTruth". Based on the fact that everytime I use the ATM machine, I have to push for English, when I use an automated phone service, and all the "SE HABLA ESPANOL" signs everywhere. I think those are all some examples of who is the majority in this country.
