HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
Kroker commits to Wake Forest
Shane Kroker of Westlake High has made a verbal commitment to the Wake Forest baseball program.
Kroker hit .369 with 21 RBIs for the Westlake baseball team last spring. He was the starting third baseman for the Milwaukee Brewers Gray team at the Area Code Games in Long Beach last month.
Kroker was ranked No. 28 among position players at the Area Code Games.
FOOTBALL
Sharks to face Titans at Agoura on Sunday
The West Coast Sharks minor league football team can win its fourth straight game Sunday when the Sharks face the Tri-County Titans at Agoura High. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
The Sharks (3-4 overall, 3-2 LCFL) are based in Oxnard and have played in Ventura County since 1999.
This season they have been unable to secure a practice site and have not practiced since their last loss. The game will be the first meeting between the Sharks and Titans (4-4 overall, LCFL).
"Wildest season we've ever had," said Sharks owner Tony Downs. "But our defense has been consistent all year and we've started getting more productive on offense."
GOLF
Westlake High baseball team hosts tournament
The Westlake High baseball program will host the annual golf fundraiser on Nov. 5 at the North Ranch Country Club. Play begins at 10:30 and following 18 holes of golf, there will be a dinner and silent auction from 4 to 6 p.m. Information or donation: Jeanne Wolfgram at 494-1281.
Inaugural event: The inaugural Ventura County Asian American Bar Association Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 29 at Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo. Information: www.VCAABA.org.
RUNNING
Pleasant Valley Lions to host Cub Run
The Camarillo-Somis Pleasant Valley Lions Club will host the eighth annual 5-kilometer Lion Run and one-kilometer Cub Run on Sunday at the Camarillo Ranch. The event is for runners and walkers. Proceeds will benefit local charities.
The 5-kilometer will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the Cub Run at 8:45 a.m. The Cub Run is for those 12 and under. Parents are invited to run or walk with their children.
Entry fee is $20 for the 5 kilometer and $20 for the 1-kilometer. Camarillo Ranch is located 201 Camarillo Ranch Road off Mission Oaks Boulevard.
