Halaco, a former metal-smelting plant in Oxnard, was added today to the Environmental Protection Agency's Superfund list of national cleanup priorities.
The EPA will have a community meeting Monday to tell residents about contamination at the site, risks associated with that contamination and cleanup plans.
The meeting will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the South Oxnard Community Center, 200 E. Bard Road, Oxnard.
"The EPA will use its resources to see that any threats to the community from contamination at the site are addressed," said Keith Takata, the EPA's director of the Superfund list for the Pacific Southwest region.
Halaco was the only California site added to the EPA's Superfund National Priority List today.
