BURBANK 28, CAMARILLO BLUE 24
Pacific Youth Football League Peewee Division
Highlights: Camarillo — Tavis Valenzuela returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Valenzuela added three more touchdowns. Connor Clark rushed for 40 yards. Tony Burgos ran for 45 yards. Alex Sarti added 25 yards. The Blue Lightning blocked well. Defensively, Reece Knupp had a standout performance with 13 tackles. Bryce Binnette had six tackles with two fumble recoveries. Samuel Balentine had three tackles and five assists. Mauricio Torres had three tackles and two assists. Others leading the defense included D.J. Hohman (fumble recovery), DeLondon Johnson, DeLondon (fumble recovery), Connor Clark, Burgos, Mateo Widrig and Valenzuela.
Record: Camarillo 0-2.
CAMARILLO BLUE 14, SANTA CLARITA 0
PYFL Bantam Division
Highlights: Camarillo — Andrew Luna and George Barroso sparked the defense. Dalton Geringer threw a touchdown pass to Alvie Thompson. Tommy Merickel added the two-point conversion. Consistent blocking from Jack Jensen and Nick Baroni resulted in a touchdown run by Quincy Bennett.
Record: Camarillo 2-0.
CAMARILLO GOLD 15, SIMI VALLEY WHITE 14
Gold Coast Youth Football League Junior II Division
Highlights: Camarillo — In a hard-hitting battle between last year's Super Bowl champions in the Junior I and Junior II divisions, a 28-yard field goal by Eric Nagaoka was the difference. Nagaoka had more than 15 tackles. Conrad Kotake rushed for more than 120 yards and scored two touchdowns, one coming on a 70-yard touchdown pass from Jared Cline. Cline was 8 for 17 for 153 yards. Hunter Virant had numerous game-saving tackles and had an interception. Virant also caught four passes. Myles Harvey, Jack McGuire, Dez Vasquez, J.T. McGinley, Colton Sper and Blake Howell played well on both sides of the ball.

MOORPARK GOLD 28, CAMARILLO BLACK 0
GCYFL Mitey Mite Division
Highlights: Camarillo — The Cougars held Moorpark to eight points in the first half. Corey Pool, David Thomasetti, Jake Moss, Carson Smith and Sean Rice played well on defense.
SIMI GREEN 38, SIMI BLACK 8
GCYFL Mighty Mite Division
Highlights: Simi Green — The Vikings improved to 2-0. The defense was led by Brandon Baynes, Tyler Dobbs, Anthony Porrozzo and Colton Rogers. The offense was led by quarterbacks Casey Crawford and Jake Simons. Points were scored by Anthony Acosta, Brandon Baynes, Kyler Escutia, Chandler Herpich, Dallas Holliday, Colton Rogers and Jake Simons. Simi Green is coached by Carl Dobbs. Simi Green plays Camarillo at 8 a.m. Saturday at Rio Mesa.
Record: Simi Black 0-1-1.
MOORPARK 6, SANTA PAULA 0 (OT)
GCYFL Mitey Mite Division
Highlights: Moorpark — The Packers won their home opener. The defense was led by Noah Mattera with five sacks and a fumble recovery; Jack Carroll had a fumble recovery and several tackles as well. Late in the fourth quarter, with less than a minute on the clock, the Cardinals were driving with an effective ground game. On two separate occasions, it appeared the Cardinals would score on breakaway runs. Stefan Burlet and Austyn Daniels both made game-saving tackles to send the game into overtime. In overtime, Daniels rushed for a 10-yard touchdown. The Cardinals were given a chance to answer, but the defense stopped the Cardinals with tackles by Zachary "Zippy" Tucker, Noah Mattera, Jake Carroll and Connor Hodgson.
SIMI VALLEY RED 6, CAMARILLO WHITE 0
GCYFL Bantam Division
Highlights: Camarillo — After allowing a touchdown in the second quarter, the Cougars held the Vikings to three first downs the remainder of the game. Camarillo moved the ball effectively on two drives inside the 20-yard line, but it was unable to score.
The defensive effort was led by Jack Barrios, Bryce Arnold, Michael Kytlica, Ki Taylor and Shawn Fairchild. The offense was led by the running of Tommy Moss, Arnold and Kytlica.
SANTA CLARITA 30, SANTA PAULA 6
GCYFL Junior I Division
Highlights: Santa Clarita — The Wildcats returned the opening kickoff for a score and never looked back. The Wildcats intercepted two passes and recovered a couple of fumbles, and seemed to be starting deep in Cardinals territory most of the afternoon. Santa Paula — Daniel Kohr forced two fumbles and the Cardinals intercepted two passes, including one for a touchdown by Mark Shide.
Record: Santa Paula 1-1.
CAMARILLO 28, OXNARD 6
GCYFL Senior Division
Highlights: Camarillo — Andrew Wysocki threw a 15-yard touchdowm pass to Jake Maulhardt. Maulhardt scored on a 24-yard run and Johnny Ruiz added the PAT run. David Ortiz scored on 17-yard run. Tanner Wrout scored on a 39-yard run. Wrout scored a two-point conversion on a pass from Wysocki. Kaden Valdivieso, James Webster, Tyler Southerland, Connor Soudani and Colby Greiman anchored the offensive line. The defense was led by Maulhardt, Wrout, Ortiz, Valdivieso, Ruiz, Evan Benson, James Turner, Patrick Myers, Ben Quantock, Nick Renga and Martin Prado.
SIMI VALLEY GREEN 28, CAMARILLO WHITE 2
GCYFL Junior I Division
Highlights: Camarillo — Christian Bernal had 10 carries for 35 yards on offense and seven tackles on defense. Daniel Ziegler had three kick returns for 35 yards and had a 70-yard kick return nullified by a penalty. Jared Martinez had a 25-yard pass reception from Kyle Ewing, three tackles and a fumble recovery. Kyle Merker had three tackles. Josh Swindle had two tackles. Cole McGuire had 12 tackles. J.T. Vega blocked a punt for a safety.
CAMARILLO 24, SIMI VALLEY 0
GCYFL Bantam Division
Highlights: Camarillo — The Cougars earned their second straight shutout. Cameron Ewing ran for more than 100 yards and scored three touchdowns. Corbin Betherum and Jake Constantine scored PATs. Center Bobby Stern, guards Cameron Rompal and Nicolas Vazquez, tackles Robert Cervantes and Brett Triebold and wide receivers Steven DeStefeno, Mason Harvey and Wyatt Zambri blocked well. Steven Marin, Storm Castillo, Corbin Betherum and Jake Constantine played well. Castillo paced the defense. Other defensive standouts included Constantine, Triebold, Betherum, Marin, Mason Harvey, Ewing, Jacob Jamelkowski, Robert Cervantes, J.J. Mora, Joey Tinoco, Kevin Muklevicz, Stern, Jared Oseguerra and Nicolas MacInnis.
Record: Camarillo 2-0.
CAMARILLO SILVER 6, CANYON GREEN 0
PYFL Bantam Division
Highlights: Camarillo — Elijah Alexander, Colby Stevens, Brad Kooker, Noah Amerault and Collins Frovarp played well on defense. P.J. Blair returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown.
Record: Camarillo 2-0.
AGOURA GOLD 14, SIMI 0
PYFL Junior Division
Highlights: Agoura — The Eagles completed a 40-yard pass on fourth down and went on to score on a running play for a 6-0 lead in the first half. Agoura added an insurance touchdown in the fourth quarter.
OXNARD OPENS SEASON 2-2
Highlights: Oxnard — The 49ers opened the Pacific Youth Football League season with a 2-2 record. The 49ers defeated the Canyon Green Outlaws 30-8 in the Senior Division. Jeremy Sanchez, Connor Armstrong and Jason Balades led the offense. Lakaki Palmer and Hosea Faagogo sparked the defense. The Oxnard Bantam Division team rallied for a 22-6 win over the Canyon Green Outlaws. Rhet Burke and Mosi Aloese led the way. The Calabasas Red Juniors defeated Oxnard 8-0. Calabasas Silver earned a 16-0 win over the Oxnard Peewees.
CHALLENGER LEAGUE
The Oxnard Recreation and Community Services will offer a Challenger Flag Football Division for boys and girls ages 5-16 with mental or physical disabilities. The program will run from Sept. 24 through Oct. 27. Cost is $20 per player. Fee includes jersey, football and end-of-the-season awards. Information: Greg Barnes at 385-7990 or www.oxnardrec.org.
SIMI VALLEY LEAGUE
Matt Sherlin is the new franchise owner of the i9 Sports Flag Football League in Simi Valley and registration is under way at www.i9sports.com or call Sherlin at 813-9587. The league is for youth players 6-14 and fee is $150, including a mesh jersey and a nine-week season. The season will start Oct. 6.
ROYAL TOURNAMENT
The Royal High Football Booster Club will host the second annual Alumni Classic on Sept. 29 at Simi Hills Golf Course. Cost is $125. Information: Dave Carlson at 581-9363.
