Gerald & Antonia Davis celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 28 at a family luncheon at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Napa, California, where they currently reside.
They were married on August 1, 1947 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Westwood, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. Jerry had served in the Navy during World War II and then returned to his native southern California to attend UCLA. Toni, a native of Hungary who had emigrated to the United States with her family as a child, was also attending UCLA.
The two were introduced on a double date with Jerry's childhood friend Norm Conradson, and his girlfriend Diane Spilios-who was Toni's closest friend. At their wedding, Norm was the best man, Toni's sister Edie Farkas was the maid of honor, and Diane (who later married Norm) was the bridesmaid.
The couple bought a home in Camarillo in 1950 where Jerry worked as a printer for the Camarillo Daily News. He began working at the Ventura County (CA) Star-Free Press (now the Ventura County Star) in 1954, and the family moved to Saticoy the following year. Jerry worked at the Star for 35 years, retiring in 1989. After their youngest son started school, Toni began working at St. John's Hospital (now St. John's Regional Medical Center), in Oxnard, and received her A.A. in nursing from Ventura Junior College in 1967. She received a B.A. in behavioral sciences from LaVerne University in 1983-finishing her four-year degree nearly 40 years after she first entered UCLA.
In 1994 the couple moved to Watsonville, California, and in 1999 bought a home in Napa, California. They have seven children: Joel Davis of Bellevue, Washington; Chris Davis of Renton, Washington; Mickey Davis of Sequim, Washington; Marie Wights of Napa; Tim Davis of Fresno; Peter Davis of Oxnard; and Ed Davis of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and five grandchildren.
Jerry and Toni continue to enjoy working in their garden, symphony performances, Big Band music of the 1930s and 1940s, and visits from their children, grandchildren, and their many friends.
