Q. I have spent two deployments in Iraq and I believe I was exposed to depleted uranium. How can I find out if I was exposed?
A. The VA has a procedure for screening service members who were exposed to depleted uranium. We are sending you a fact sheet prepared by the California Department of Veterans Affairs, which explains exposure levels and screening.
If you have any residual medical problems from exposure, this office will assist you in filing a claim.
Q. I am enrolled in the VA medical system in Oxnard. I am going to spend the next few months in Utah helping my parents. Do I need to enroll in the VA medical system there?
A. VA enrollment allows healthcare benefits to become portable throughout the entire VA system. Enrolled veterans who are traveling or who spend time away from their primary treatment facility may obtain care at any VA healthcare facility across the country without having to reapply.
Make sure you take your healthcare card with you to make it easy. We are sending you a list of healthcare facilities in Utah.
Q. I am rated 40 percent disabled by the VA and my wife is going to have a baby. I am receiving compensation as married with one dependent. How do I add my baby?
A. Provide this office with a birth certificate and the baby's Social Security number and we will provide that data to the VA.
Q. I am retired from the military and I am considering relocating to Texas. How can I find out about the location of TRICARE treatment facilities there?
A. The TRICARE Military Treatment Facility locator (www.tricare.osd.mil/mtf) includes hospitals, medical centers, and some branch clinics that treat active-duty service members and their families. The site lists type of facility, location, hours of operation and driving directions.
