Most challenged books of 2006

1. "And Tango Makes Three," Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell. Detractors claim the book contains "homosexuality," is "anti-family" and is "unsuited to age group."

2. "Gossip Girls" series, Cecily Von Ziegesar. Complaints: "homosexuality," "sexual content," "drugs," "unsuited to age group," "offensive language."

3. "Alice" series, Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. Complaints: "sexual content," "offensive language."

4. "The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things," Carolyn Mackler. Complaints: "sexual content," "anti-family," "offensive language," "unsuited to age group."

5. "The Bluest Eye," Toni Morrison. Complaints: "sexual content," "offensive language," "unsuited to age group."

6. "Scary Stories" series, Alvin Schwartz. Complaints: "occult/Satanism," "unsuited to age group," "violence," "insensitivity."

7. "Athletic Shorts," Chris Crutcher. Complaints: "homosexuality," "offensive language."

8. "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," Stephen Chbosky. Complaints: "homosexuality," "sexually explicit," "offensive language," "unsuited to age group."

9. "Beloved," Toni Morrison. Complaints: "offensive language," "sexual content," "unsuited to age group."

10. "The Chocolate War," Robert Cormier. Complaints: "sexual content," "offensive language," "violence."

"Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger, "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain fell off the 2006 list after making it for years.
