Police rescue child from hot car, arrest mother
Oxnard police on Monday evening freed a 1-year-old boy from a hot car and arrested his mother on suspicion of child endangerment, authorities said.
Officers responding to a report of a child in a car found the boy about 6:30 p.m. in a vehicle parked in front of Circuit City, 421 W. Esplanade Drive, said Sgt. Andrew Salinas of the Oxnard Police Department.
The car was locked and officers broke the car window to extricate the youngster, Salinas said. The child was crying and sweating profusely.
The child was treated at the scene by paramedics. He did not appear to have suffered any injuries, police said.
Officers determined the boy had been in the car for more than 30 minutes.
They located the boy's mother, Darlene Moreno, about 15 minutes after freeing the child from the car, Salinas said.
Moreno, 25, of Port Hueneme, allegedly left her son alone in her car when she went into Circuit City to purchase a cell phone, police said in a prepared statement. She had taken her 3-year-old into the store.
Moreno was booked into Ventura County Jail, where she was being held this morning in lieu of $50,000 bail. She could face a charge of felony child abuse.
Both her children were released to a family member.

This woman is too stupid to have children. I could not stand the heat in my home on Monday night, never mind being locked in a car! Some one was watching out for this poor baby. It still took 15 minutes to find her after the baby was locked in for 30 minutes. Please do not give those children back to her.
